Modern industrial society is experiencing continuous changes in values regarding family, marriage and children. Because of the environmental changes surrounding family with the universalized individualistic values, there become diverse and unique types of families as well as nuclear family with ‘couples and children’ established in post‐war industrial society. In the times of diversified families, we need to find the functions and roles of such diversified families considering a family as ‘a basic unit of the society’ and establish a plan to provide social supports to perform family welfare. The detailed purposes of this study are as follows. First, background that diversified forms of families emerge is analyzed, the types and characteristics of such families are reviewed and the changes in family welfare practices are identified. Second, out of various kinds of families, the status of and social supports for single parent family, multi‐culture family and one person household that are increasing constantly in Korea are reviewed and the problems are found in those families so that possible support system and alternatives can be found in current social and political environments. Third, it is tried to search for policy and social support system for single parent family, multi‐culture family and one person household so that they can perform their roles as society components, function as a desirable social unit and become a social component and to find out more detailed family welfare practice methods. To support single parent family support project more practically, first, there should be children’s allowance to guarantee basic life of children in single parent family. Second, diversified and segmented psychological and emotional support program for single parent family should be established and delivery system to execute this program properly should be in place. Third, there should be a policy and service according to the intervention of single parent by age. Fourth, it is needed to enforce the legal responsibility of single father. To develop multi culture family support project, first, there should be community centered multi culture family support policy. Second, there should be a delivery system through One‐Stop Support Center. Third, there should be diversified multi culture family support programs. Fourth, it is needed to diversify the educational programs for the children from multi culture families according to their age level For the policy alternatives for one person household welfare practice, first, we need to supply small size houses and activate residence community. Second, we need to find out the method to reorganize home for the group of unsecure singles. Third, we need to enforce social security net for the silver generation who lives alone with low income. The policy alternatives proposed in this study are the solutions from the problematic perspective of family shown in Korean society. However, it could not deal with diversified problems when the accommodation level of individuals for the changes of family and emergence of diversified families was different and personal and social problems caused by those individual differences. In other words, there are new tasks that we should solve in the future such as more diversified family types will emerge in the future and there is no clear boundary of social responsibilities for the individuals who are not well adjusted to the diversified form of families
