The purpose of this study was to investigate nutrient intake and food consumption by health related quality of life (EQ-5D index) in Korean elderly aged more than 65 years using KNHANES Ⅳ data. StudyⅠwas designed to evaluate the nutrient intake, fruits and vegetables consumption by EQ-5D index, stress or depression. The intake of nutrient, fruits and vegetables of low EQ-5D index group was lower than high EQ-5D index group. And, with stress or depression, intake of nutrient, fruits and vegetables of the subjects was lower than subjects without stress or depression. The subjects had consumed more than 70% of carbohydrate-energy ratio, which was higher than 55~70% optimum carbohydrate-energy ratio of KDRIs. The intakes of vitamin and mineral were also lower in low EQ-5D index group, possibly due to be relate to lower intake of fruits and vegetables. In fact, fruits and vegetables consumption was lower in group as well as stress and depression groups. Actual intake of vegetables by 24h-recall method was lower in low EQ-5D index group (Q1 : 244.7g, Q4 : 325.5 g), stress and depression group (SD : 258.3g/day, S : 268.4 g/day, D : 267.5 g/day, NSND : 294.3 g/day). In Study Ⅱ examined the daily beverage consumption, energy intake from beverage, and energy from daily beverage contribution to total energy intake by EQ-5D index and energy intake from beverage by sociodemographic indicators BMI and blood glucose. Most favortie beverage was sugar-sweetened coffee in Korean elderly. The high EQ-5D index subjects consumed more coffee than that of low EQ-5D index subjects. But, energy contribution from daily beverage to total energy intake was higher in low EQ-5D index subjects. The differences of energy intake from beverage by age, BMI and household income was not found. The energy intake from beverage of male subjects was higher than female subjects in soymilk & grain beverage, coffee and liquor. In energy intake from beverage by blood glucose level, impaired fasting glucose group had higher intake energy intake from beverage than normal or diabetes mellitus. From the findings, Korean elderly with low quality of life has eaten insufficient intake of energy, fruits and vegetables along with overall nutrients. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct nutritional intervention to correct the nutritional imbalances and eating and to implement and establish nutrition education and nutrition policy to improve the nutritional status of the elderly with or without poor health-related quality of life
