Abstract The hope of longevity without diseases is a basic desire of human beings, which does not change even if the time goes by. The desire for quality of life should be a newly emerging desire for enjoying culture and nature as income increases and leisure chance is extended in modern times. The fast urbanization phenomenon excludes people from nature and forest. It turns out that nature deprivation may have wide-ranging effects on our immune system. Accordingly, we require searching for harmony between nature and civilization in order to encourage new recognition for nature. In this sense, the 20th century is focused on development on one side, the 21st is focused on sustainability of nature and environment on the other side. Recently, it is very active to study in scope of health related to forest such as forest healing, healing effects of forests in accordance with social concern, political measures and medical requirement. Until now, it trends that a many kind of studies have covered with demonstration of forest healing effects or some influential factors on healing. In that, a few studies show healing effects through experiencing forests, saying differences from forest type to type, inter alia coniferous forest and deciduous forest, and factors. But unfortunately, it is hardly covered for research about effects of activity with program in forests. There are a number of studies about forest healing effects, but, there are not so much evidence-based studies on selection criteria of targets just like participants, study sites, programs, etc. The healing effects of forests appear more dominantly in mental illness like depression, ADHD(Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), etc than in physical damages. Therefore, this study separates forest healing factors to macroscopic point of view and shows healing effect by schizophrenia through clinical trials. The purposes of this study are First, to present the concept of forest healing and distinguish healing factors. Second, to verify the appropriate physical environment depending on the target of forest healing. Third, to present the application standard for forest healing program type. The chronic patient, schizophrenia, participated in the forest healing program in two sites. One is the coniferous forest, the other is the broad-leaved(deciduous) forest. It was investigated once a month and continued for seven months from April to October 2013. During each research were gathered blood pressure before and after program, salivary cortisol levels twice for 7 months(April and October), psychiatric measures, and satisfaction. The results are as follows. The stress shows a decreasing trend before and after program and the difficulty of emotional expression also decreases in Toronto Alexithymia Psychiatric Scales. In comparison with the satisfaction of a meditation program by coniferous and deciduous forest, the satisfaction in coniferous forest appears higher than deciduous forest. The decreasing effect of blood pressure appears as a whole higher in coniferous forest. It represents a same result that the effects of forest healing, as reported up to date, are better in coniferous forests than deciduous forests because of mostly one factor called phytoncide. In this study, however, it is revealed that other factors besides phytoncide also may have influence on effects of forest healing. This suggests that the effective factors involved in forest healing should be definitely distinguished in order to maximize the effects of forest healing, and these factors have to be configured appropriately for purpose and target people of forest healing. According to this study, there is a limitation to separation of forest healing factors and effective verification of a single group through the before and after measures of clinical tests. This is basically caused of the lack of effect verification according to the repetition time and duration of forest healing program. From now on, it will be needed to study in this destination. The assembled results would contribute to provision of basic data for forest healing. Key words: forest healing, healing factor, saliva cortisol, schizophrenia, program type, forest healing program.
