CCSBI(Class Child ...

This study aimed to examine the effect of the sex on children's stress behavior on aggression and social competence. The study also investigated the effects of children's sex and stress behavior on aggression and social competence. The participants of the study were 171 preschoolers(89 boys and 82 girls) who were from 4 to 5 and attending early childhood educational institutes in Seoul, Incheon and Gyunggi-do. The researcher used the Koh Hee-Jeoung(1997)'s Korean version of CCSBI(Class Child Stress Behavior Instrument) suggested by Burts, Hart, Charlesworth and Kirk(1990)to measure the children's stress behavior. For measuring children's aggression, the researcher employes the scale developed by Achenbac and Edelbroock(1981) and the Behavior Checklist, Oh Gyeong-Ja, Lee Hye-Ryun, Hong Gang-Ui, Ha Eun-Hye(1997) of K-CBLC(Korean Child Behavior Checklist), and Larzelere, Martin, & Amberson(1989) of the TBC(Toddler Behavior Checklist) all three Tool to mearure aggression in overlapping items, except for items that were selected to modify and test tools, complemented Park Hui-Bun(2003) were the tools used. For measuring children's social competence, the researcher was in the format of Vineland's societal maturity test, which has been revised by Kim Sook-Kyung(1989). The data collected was analyzed by the SPSS WIN 21.0 program. The reliability of each instrument was verified, and frequency, percentage, average, and standard deviation were calculated. Pearson's correlation coefficient. t-test, and simple regression analysis to analyze data collected from the survey. The results of this study were as follows. First, There was meaningful difference in the children's stress behavior by children's sex. Boys showed the stress behavior much more than girls. There was meaningful difference in the aggression by children' sex. Boys showed the aggression much more than girls. There was meaningful difference in the social competence by children' sex. Girls showed the social competence much more than boys. Second, the results of analyzing correlation, there were positive correlation between children's stress behavior and aggression. There were negative correlation between children's stress behavior and social competence. There were negative correlation between aggression and social competence. Third, the result of analyzing the effect of the sex on children's stress behavior on aggression, the stress behavior showed significant effect on aggression. The higher the degree of stress behaviors were higher the degree of aggression. Fourth, the result of analyzing the effect of the sex on children's stress behavior on social competence, the stress behavior showed significant effect on social competence. The higher the degree of stress behaviors were lower levels of social competence.
