This paper aims to examine the statement patterns of sexually assaulted people with intellectual disability and the related influencing factors. To this end, the statements of 47 persons with intellectual disability who received official statement investigations because of alleged victims by sexual assault between January 2010 and December 2014 were analyzed. According to the results, 46.8% of the victims spontaneously disclosed their sexual assault initially and quite some of the victims reaching 25.5% never disclosed their sexual assault in advance(disclosure at non-leading questions= 8.5%, disclosure at leading questions= 19.1%). Among the subjects of the initial disclosure, family members accounted for the highest percentage at 40.4% followed by policemen, facility workers, acquaintances, and teachers in order of precedence. The rate of disclosure immediately after the occurrence of the case was low at 14.9% and the rate of disclosure when two years or more had passed was high at 19.1%. Differences in the types of initial disclosure according to demographic variables were not statistically significant. The relationships between the types of initial disclosure and the characteristics of cases were analyzed and according to the results, the rate of spontaneous disclosure in rape cases(52.9%) was significantly higher compared to other types of cases. The relationships between the relations between victims and assailants and the types of disclosure were analyzed and according to the results, the ratio of ‘non-disclosure’ in cases where strangers were assailants (58.3%) was significantly higher than that in cases where acquaintances were assailants (14.3%). Differences in the types of initial disclosure according to the frequency of sexual assaults, whether threatened or intimidated or not, whether penetrated or not, and guardians' attitudes toward the case and the victim were not significant. Differences in statement patterns according to investigators' investigating methods and how well investigators explained ground rules of statements were analyzed and according to the results, 66.0% of investigators explained that only truth should be told, 70.2% explained the rule that unknown facts should be told as such, confirmed, 53.2% explained the rule for investigators' correction of errors, 40.4% formed rapport, and 46.8% conducted anecdotal memory training. The type of questions that was the most frequently used by investigators was Wh-questions(M=46.80, SD=24.23), followed by invitations(M=18.83, SD=10.89), and yes or no questions(M=17.89, SD=9.92) in order of precedence. Some investigators never used any invitation (open question). The investigators used more echoes to victims with severer intellectual disabilities. Although invitations decreased when victims were older but the differences were not significant. The amounts of information reported by victims according to the types of investigators' questions were analyzed and according to the results, the victims reported the largest amount of information at Wh-questions(M=64.23, SD=34.15) followed by invitations (M=47.72, SD=32.78) and yes or no questions(M=13.87, SD=10.73) in order of precedence. The amounts of statements were not significantly different according to whether the rules of investigation were explained or not or according to the types of questions. Factors that affect the amounts of information reported by victims during investigations were analyzed and according to the results, the group with class 1 intellectual disability was shown to have provided significantly more information compared to the remaining two groups but the differences were not significant any further when the effects of the frequency of sexual assaults were controlled. Ages and the amounts of stated information showed significant negative correlations and the correlations were still significant even when the frequency of sexual assaults and disability classes were controlled. The amounts of stated information were significantly larger when the frequency of sexual assaults was higher. Differences in the amounts of stated information according to the types of cases, the types of initial disclosure, whether threatened or not, whether penetrated or not, relations between victims and assailants, guardians' attitudes toward cases and victims, and whether a reliable attendee existed or not were not significant. In discussion, the implications and limitations of the study were discussed.
