(Abstract) Career education takes place all throughout childhood and adolescence up until adulthood and is extremely important for a person to be able to find an adequate job and serve as an independent member of society. The fact that career education should start at an early age and continue into adulthood emphasizes the importance of career education during elementary school. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether experiential activity-centered career education program that includes physical activities, parish activities and computer media might influence the career awareness in children with developmental disability. 6 children with developmental disability between the ages 8 and 12 were submitted to 8 sessions(60 minutes per session, 1 session per week) of career education. Career awareness assessment tools were used before and after the education, and the changes in each category of career awareness were studied. The study results showed that experiential activity-centered career education program had an influence on the changes of career awareness in children with developmental disability. More specifically, the self-understanding category showed a positive influence on decision making tendency, personal relationship tendency except for self exploration factor. In the occupation perception category, the career education problem showed no statistical significance on career values but there was a mean difference before and after assessment and a positive influence on occupation bias. In the category of career attitude, the career education program showed a positive influence on career preparation and self-directiveness. Based on these results, we can conclude that further studies on career education programs for children with developmental disability should be carried out. Further expansion and improvement of studies is also necessary through means such as development of objective career education programs specifically designed for children with developmental disability and assessment tools, variation of study participants and programs with more sessions.
