Background The atopic dermatitis tend to increase steadily world-wide, and in Korea, the ratio of its incidents had increased from 15.3% in 1995 to 17% in 2000. According to the National Health and Nutrition Survey in 2009, 16.3% of the children aged between 1 and 11 were suffering from the atopic dermatitis, and thus, increase of the medical cost and deterioration of life quality thereof are raised as a social issue (Oh et al., 2003). Many preceding studies discussed the effects of breast feeding on the atopic dermatitis incidents and some of them (for example, Kim Woo-gyeong et al., 2009) set the breast feeding period as an independent variable to analyze the correlation between the period and infants' experience of atopic dermatitis. Subjects and Methods The raw data from the 2010-2012 National Health and Nutrition Survey were used to sample a total 894 infants aged 48 months or younger (boys: 465, girls: 429) for the analysis. The cases with the breast feeding set as independent variable were sampled for the analysis, and the relevant literature was reviewed to analyze the correlation between the selected variables and the dependent ones. For the confounding variables, such demographic variables as age (months) and gender were used, while such variables as type of housing, region, income level, educational background, job, dog's hair and cockroach were used depending on the environmental characteristics. And depending on the health characteristics, this study used such variables as birthweight, timing of starting weaning supplement, timing of breast feeding, mixed feeding, timing of the ordinary milk feeding, Immunoglobulin E (IgE) and incident of atopic dermatitis (family history). In order to determine the important factors affecting the correlation between breast feeding and infants' atopic dermatitis as well as between breast feeding period and the dermatitis, the confounding variables were controlled for the survey logistic procedure (binominal logistic analysis). The data were analyzed using the SPSS WIN 21.0v. Results The incidents of the atopic dermatitis were examined depending on breast feeding period and confounding variables, and as a result, it was found that age (months) was significantly correlated with the incident of atopic dermatitis. The breast feeding period was not significant, but the control variable 'age' (months) that was found significantly correlated with the incident of atopic dermatitis was confirmed significant, too, when it was considered together with all the other variables. The resultant ratio of odds was 1.03, larger than 1, which means that the effect was positive. As a result of the logistic regression analysis, the differences depending on the length of the breastfeeding period were not significant, but when the variable was put into together with all the other ones, they were found significant. First, the ratio of odds for the 'age' (months) was larger than 1, which means that the effect was positive. However, that of odds for the weight was smaller than 1, which means that the effect was negative. Conclusion As the age (months) was found significantly correlated with the atopic dermatitis, it is deemed necessary to manage the disease in consideration of infants' age (months). On the other hand, since it was found that other factors than breast feeding were risky factors of atopic dermatitis, it is deemed desirable to operate a more fundamental atopic dermatitis management program.
