This study was about the meaning of self-supervision to revitalize sand play which is done outdoor sand playground by one-year old infant class at a nursery school. It investigated physical environment, infants, and teachers which were changed in the course of self-supervision for revitalization of sand play. The purpose was to suggest an education plan of efficient sand play for one-year old infant through the investigation. Research problems established in this study pursuant to the purpose were as follows; First, what was the course of self-supervision for revitalization of sand play for one-year old infant class arranged? Second, what was educational meaning of self-supervision for revitalization of sand play for one-year old infant class? Self-supervision was conducted on 5 one-year old infants in Saessak Class at the B Nursery School in Seoul for 3 months from July 1, 2015 to September 25, 2015. Participants in the research were 1 researcher as homeroom teacher of the Saessak Class and 5 infants in the Saessak Class; they observed infants' play appearance in the sand playground; and, they collected and analyzed teacher's journals, infants' observation diary records, photos, analyzed activities record data and documents. Process of data analysis was composed of such 3 phases according to analysis procedures of Kim, Yung Cheon (2006) as Transcrition, coding, and subject formation. During the process of analysis, vocabularies which the researcher deemed important were selected and classified into the 1st category list and then, systematically classified into the 2nd category list through reclassification and reinterpretation. After completion of the 2nd category work, vocabularies were rearranged and reorganized. Referring to self-supervision phase of Lee, Yoon Sik (1999) for revitalization of sand play, they grasped problem of sand play and then, went through a process of establishment, implementation and evaluation of a plan. Through such process, they described changes in physical environment, infants, and teachers. Above research results are suggested as follows; First, if we looked into change in physical environment arising from self-supervision of sand play revitalization, it was changed from a place of refusing sand with expression of cry into a sand playground of positive play with vitality. The place became easier to use water as well as sand and it provided more shade to be changed into a sand playground with rest. It also provided entrance of the sand playground for infants to be familiar and therefore, it could attract their interest. And, it brought about a change to a clean sand playground through replacement of the whole sand in the sand playground. Second, if we looked into change in infants arising from self-supervision of sand play revitalization, infants were seen to recognize sand as a pleasant play and were changed into ones to positively and actively participate in games using five senses in addition to sand play. Revitalization of sand play was made through the process of their sand play with interest and absorption in sand play, and it resulted in positive change for infants, who used to cry loudly with great resistance, to be absorbed in sand play due to influence of change in other infants. Third, if we looked into change in teachers arising from self-supervision of sand play revitalization, the researcher herself studied the field which she thought she was not good at and unfamiliar with and she became to have positive attitude. Also, the teacher changed from the one who only concentrated on safety accident during sand play into the one who used positive language to encourage infants through various interaction methods. Especially, the teacher became the one who could empathize with behavior of infants who expressed their desire as cry and annoyance. In addition, the teacher became the one who could positively grasp and create child care environment for infants. As above, the self-supervision study for revitalization of sand play by one-year old infant class at a nursery school has a significant meaning in that sand play, which was disregarded by teachers due to characteristics of infants, worry about safety accident and sanitary matters, but now has been revitalized through self-supervision process of teachers. In addition, it was found that physical environment, infants and teachers were positively changed through self-supervision process. Therefore, this study implied that self-supervision process was effective for revitalization of sand play by one-year old infant class at a nursery school and that it was valuable for suggestion of education measure for operation of practical sand play in the field and that it was an effective operation method applicable to the field of a nursery school.
