This study was aimed to investigate the influence of the domestic ginseng seed oil on glucose uptake and its index components using a comparative analysis of ginseng saponin contents in ginseng seed oil. The results showed the husked ginseng seed oil had a high content of 1.667% for ginsenoside Rh1, a component that is known for its anti-allergenic and anti-cancer activities. Also, the anti-diabetic effect of the ginseng seed oil on α-Glucosidase inhibitory activity showed statistically significant differences (p < 0.001) among the saponin concentrations of the samples. At the concentration of 10mg/mL, HE was 64.39%, while SE and EE were 58.82% and 52.25%, respectively.
The results revealed that the main fatty acids in the ginseng seed oil were Oleic acid and Linoleic acid. Additionally, among ginseng saponin contents, ginsenoside Rh1 and Re were highly concentrated on the extruded ginseng seed oil. The index components for hexane (or supercritical) extracted ginseng seed oil were Oleic acid and Linoleic acid, whereas the index components for the extruded ginseng seed oil were Oleic acid, Linoleic acid, ginsenoside Rh1, and ginsenoside Re.
The study indicates that the anti-diabetic activity of ginseng seed oil inhibited α-Glucosidase and α-Amylase activities which may impact on the increase of postprandial blood glucose levels by inhibiting the absorption of sugar in human intestines. Thus, it is expected to bring a development of new anti-diabetic dietary supplement in the field using ginsenoside Re, a confirmed component of anti-diabetic action among ginseng saponin contents.
