This research classify sedimentation unit of soft ground in Westsea(Gyeongg, Namyang, Asan, Seockmun, Garorim) and Saemanguem, where more than half of intertidal zone of Westsea area, which includes cohesive soil, formation environment and suggest each strata’s mineral composition and physicochemical characteristics.
Stratigraphic position, facies and unconformity, based on a combination of the intertidal zone are classified into four sedimentary units, bedrock over Unit 4→Unit 3→Unit 2→Unit 1 has been developed in the following order.
Measured in Gyeonggi Bay the intertidal sediment deposits when compared with the west coast, in CheongRa area Unit 4-Unit 3-Unit 2-Unit 1 all strata appear. In Yeongjong Do by Unit 2-Unit 1, Incheon Bridge and Songdo area Unit 4-Unit 3-Unit 1 is observed.
In Daesan area Unit 4-Unit 3-Unit 1 is observed. in saemanguem area Unit 1-Unit 3-Unit 4 is marine sediment and Unit-2 is break. Average clay mineral content ratio is 8.2% in CheongRa area, 2.9% in Yeongjong Island, 18.4% in Incheon Bridge, 24.6% in Songdo area.
The result from research based of core sample’s macroscopy, mineral composition, geochemical characteristic(PH, electrical conductivity, salinity) and physical characteristics(fineness, magnetic susceptibility, resistivity, change of water content, analysis of chemical matter) shows 4 sedimentation unit generally similar with existing research, but in some region 2~3 sedimetation units are formed because of river, wave, tidal current and tides.
Therefore, graping sediment layer which composes strata, sedimentation layer by and composition of layer’s geochemical characteristic to infer sediment environment and classify sedimentation unit, and through sedimentary layer’s macroscopy and specific analysis, concluse elements influences on subgrade’s engineering characteristcs makes basic data for economical design.
