The purpose of this study is to analyze the stories that reveal the crisis that pastor’s spouses experience with their own identities in their private lives, their leadership roles as a pastor's spouse as a leader, and their recovery through pastoral counseling. According to the study of sacrificial leadership in pastor's spouses Choi & Mai-Dalton (1998) discovers that the leadership of pastor’s spouses were based on a self-sacrificing leadership. The study divided the topic into three theories: division of labor, distribution of recognition, and exercise of power. First, the division of labor is divided into dangerous jobs, difficult jobs, undesirable jobs, etc. than any other labor in church works. The position of pastor's spouse is to take the lead in everything for the church community and work within the context of any church's needs (secretarial roles, clerical, choir conductor, teacher, piano, church cleaning, preparing meals, caring for the needs of the congregation etc.) and sacrificing themselves through these roles. Second, pastor's spouses are not acknowledged for their self-sacrifice. Although they are highly educated professionals, pastor’s spouses abandon or postpone their salaries, merits or promotions to self-sacrifice and become a full time worker in the church because their initial role was to help their husbands (the pastors). In addition, pastor’s spouses who have majored or minored in theology hold an ambiguous role in the church rather than being recognized for the ministry that she is doing. Any recognition for the ministry that is done by pastor’s spouses are not given to the spouses themselves, but to their husband (the pastors), resulting in self-sacrificing. Third, pastor’s spouses have to self-sacrifice in the exercise of power. They have to refrain, restrain or abandon the exercise of power to make their voice heard to support the power of the pastor. In traditional Christian culture, it is typical for the pastor’s spouse to give up and sacrifice their right to exercise power. As such, pastor’s spouses are repeatedly living in a life hidden in the existence of being the “pastor’s spouse” and at the expense of losing a sense of self. The purpose of this student is to focus on the recovery of the identity of the pastor’s spouses who live in this life of sacrificial leadership. This study utilizes the narrative inquiry method for qualitative research on the identity of the pastor's spouse. I met with 10 preliminary study participants, then selected six for the final study group. The participants are middle-aged women, 40-50 years of age. All the participants are experiencing confusion and conflicts about their identity as the pastor's spouse. This study was conducted to share the experiences of the pastor's spouses lives based on the story of psychological analysis in Mcadams, and also to shed light onto the benefit of Neuger’s pastoral counseling for pastor’s spouses living sacrificial leadership. I found differences in the opinions about the identity of pastor's spouse. First, the difference was between those who majored and minored in theology. Second, the difference was between the urban and local (regional) ministry. Third, the difference was with the pastor’s spouses who were in ministry with their in-laws. In addition, the stories of the pastor's spouses can be divided into four categories: family stories, church stories, her own stories, and the societal and cultural stories. Through the analysis of the stories, the pastor’s spouses \revealed emotions of fear and loneliness. This is a cause of low self-esteem in the life of self-sacrificing leader, because there is no support group. A solution is to gather pastor’s spouses who are in ministry, support each other through by communicating and taking the time to comfort each other, which leads to recovery. Finally, this study is to provide a pastoral counseling program that will renew and restore pastor’s spouses who are physically and spiritually exhausted. This study will allow them to breath and rediscover their “self” and recover the identify of the pastor’s spouses.
