Following a success story of few leading coffee franchises such as Starbucks, the coffee franchise market in Korea has been exponentially increased. While such unprecedented growth rate of coffee market breaks last annual profits over and over, the growing number of disposable cups used in coffee franchises has been raised as a severe environmental concern. Recently, coffee franchises tries eco-friendly policies and eco-friendly marketing in order to respond to the environmental issues . However, their eco-friendly programs are sometimes less valued because of its un-profitableness and time-consuming process. Few eco-friendly marketing campaigns on the market, therefore, are designed for a branding purpose, so its environmental benefits are limited. It is clear that sustainable eco-friendly endeavors of companies will contribute to greener earth as well as better public opinion. An increasing number of customers finally start to consider environmental responsibility of companies as well as quality of products or services, and companies adopt the environmental responsibility as an important marketing factor. The main point of this paper is to examine the differential effect of eco-friendly marketing campaigns on the coffee customers’ perceived psychological value about the campaign, brand image of a coffee store, and their purchasing intention. In this paper, the eco-friendly marketing campaigns are designed in three types; 1) an advertising slogan with a set of eco-friendly products for profit, 2) an earth hour campaign by turning off unnecessary indoor lights for hours, and 3) a sustainable coffee bean certification emphasizing ecological and environmental standards. In this study, customers’ favor of each eco-friendly campaign is measured according to the value recognized by the customers. Then, we also evaluated how the favor of customers is connected to companies’ public identity as well as the customers’ purchasing intention. Data were collected from randomly chosen coffee franchise stores customers, and each human subject was randomly assigned to one of the three marketing campaigns. The effects of marketing campaigns toward psychological value and branding image were evaluated by one-way ANOVA, and the effects of psychological value and branding image toward purchasing intention were evaluated by a multiple regression analysis. The result of this study shows that customers’ psychological value of eco-friendly marketing increases as the value of campaigns does. Customers more favor the earth hour campaign than the advertising slogan, but there was no difference between the earth hour campaign and the sustainable coffee bean certification with repect to brand image. At last, customers’ purchasing intention increases as their psychological value and companies’ public identity increase.
