The most important goal of ITS(Intelligent Transportation System) is to provide a safe driving environment. Service or application for this purpose is required to recognize its own neighboring vehicles more quickly and accurately. Researches based on LiDAR, camera and ranging sensor are proceeding according to necessity of neighboring vehicles location recognition. However, the technics using sensors that have been studied in the past are heavily influenced by the performance of the sensor and the surrounding environment, and can not recognize vehicles located in a wide area. In addition, studies using GPS have a very inaccurate result due to the low update period of GPS and signal attenuation, which may result in a safety hazard to the driver when used in safety related applications. In this thesis, in order to solve the problem, we propose CPSNV (Cooperative Positioning System of Neighboring Vehicles) that can quickly identify the relative positions of neighboring vehicles based on the information received from the forward camera, ranging sensor, GPS, and inertial sensors. CPSNV correct the positioning error by applying the Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) technique to the shared position of the neighboring vehicles and the position of the neighboring vehicles measured by the sensor. CPSNV can also recognize the location of neighboring vehicles located in a wide range through inter-vehicle communication. Simulation results show that the CPSNV position recognition error is about 4m on average, which reduces the error range by 3.6 times compared to the conventional GPS based relative position recognition technique.
