The purpose of this study was to investigate the breakfast skipping status of the upper grades elementary school students, between 4~6 graders, affiliated with Daegu Education District. Subjects of this study skipped breakfast showed a tendency for higher BMI with height and body weight. This could be due to they eat more food at lunch and dinner. The reason for missing breakfast was lack of enough time due to oversleeping and dailly working schedule for their parents. The amount of money allowance was higher for those who skipping the breakfast than those who have breakfast. It seems that the group having breakfast preferred Korean dishes while the group skipped breakfast preferred sandwiches and breads. The breakfast time was the highest at 7: 00-7: 30 AM and it took within 10 minutes. The group skipping breakfast felt ‘Tired and Troublesome’ when they skipped breakfast, and it appeared they had no special desire during lunch time. At breakfast, the group skipping breakfast had higher frequency for ‘Eat alone’ without parent attention. The group skipped breakfast ate little amount with more salty food than the group having breakfast, and they showed tendency for roughly chewing or swallowing foods even without chewing. In addition, they took imbalanced diet, and consumed less than 1 cup of milk in a day. Major reasons for refusing milk were either due to dislike or troublesome. The average frequency for eat-out was 2 or more per month, with decision made by the father.
