학교도서관 이벤트컬렉션 프로그램의 교육적 효과에 관한 연구 : 한국사 분야를 중심으로 A Study on the Educational Effectiveness of School Library Event Collection Programs: Focusing on Korean History원문보기

An event collection is a temporary program with reading materials derived from a variety of perspectives within a specific topic and event activities related to the topic. These event collections are being used to promote school library goals that cater to school education through the school library’s curriculum-related activities. This study suggests that new approach to collection development and space organization in school libraries as mediators between students’ information needs and curriculum-related materials is suggested using the event collections. First, preliminary action research study was carried out as a pilot study in order to assess the educational effectiveness and potential of event collection programs over about 4 months from September 8, 2015 to January 8, 2016. In this pilot study, fifth and sixth-grade elementary school students were chosen as participants of the study, and the topic was "human rights" for coinciding with Student Rights Month in October and to provide an understanding of the subject. During the process of carrying out the study, participant observation and in-depth interview were conducted to identify action types and differences among the types. In addition, then the causes and the possibility of educational effectiveness were explored. Based on the results from the pilot, this study implemented an event collection program with the participation of 352 students in their fifth and sixth grades from three schools in the Gyeonggi Province of South Korea, to verify generalizability and expandability to various topics. Commemorating Remembrance Month in June, Korean history from the elementary school curriculum was chosen. In order to observe any changes before and after the study pre- and post-tests were administered through a quasi-experimental single-group time series investigation. The displayed collection in the program was developed by students’ book selection in order them to take responsibility and participation, and activities in the program was planned in considering experience factors related to the topic. As a result, the collection and the activities in the program were intertwined with each other within the topic. Also, the collection was planned for the students to expand their historical knowledges in terms of their width and depth through developing the students’ diverse viewpoints and senses of values. In order for this, the collection was constructed in a system with time, topic, and people in Korean history. The characteristics in the event collection programs were identified as SENSE, FEEL, THINK, RELATE, ACT from the five factors in experiential marketing. The educational effectiveness was constructed with reading efficacy (reading effectiveness, reading ability, reading method, and topic knowledge) and Subject field (interest in Korean history, motivation, attitude, self-worth, and learning anxiety). Also, the perception of library role consisted of cognitive, affective, and behavioral areas. Based on the constructed factors, survey questionnaires were developed. Also, an observational diary was developed in the program. Consequently, this study intended to strengthen the generalization of the analysis by adopting triangulation with both quantitative and qualitative data. A summary of the results from a series of statistical analyses and of the content analysis with the diary is as follows. First, the socio-demographical characteristics such as gender and grade did not show any significant effect to the program effectiveness in the three school. Some individual experience factors, such as exhibition experience and book selection experience. Second, in order to measure the effectiveness of event collection programs, factors such as reading efficacy, interest in Korean history, perception of the library role were analyzed using comparisons between pre- and post-surveys. The results showed that all factors considered were improved by the program, and additionally, the standard deviations of the factors were decreased. These results show the effectiveness of the program not only on the students’ individual improvement but also on the improvement of the group of students. Third, the influence of the experience factors in the program on reading efficacy, interest in Korean history, and perception of the library role was analyzed. The results showed that RELATE subfactor in the experience factor was the main to the reading ability. These factors had a positive effect on perception of the library role by raising interest in Korean history (role of reading and providing information), FEEL(role of meeting and rest provision), and behavior (reuse and recommendation intent). Also, the program’s SENSE factors increased interests in the topic, and had a positive effect on perception of the library role by boosting motivation for and mind set regarding history (role of reading and providing information), affection (role of meeting and providing rest), and behavior (reuse and recommendation intent). Based on the results, some important considerations in planning and utilization measures for event collection programs can be made. Event collection programs are integrated programs composed of event experience (exhibition and activity experience), and collection experience (reading materials at various levels and from various perspectives), in a cooperation model that combines school education and subject-related material with the utilization of library resources. In order for appropriate integration, efforts need to be made to develop specific topic-related event factors, and understand the structure of information of the subject areas related to the topic. Additionally, the means of providing experience should be adjusted to the specific environments and conditions of the school in stages, in order to be able to provide appropriate experience. Therefore, first, analyses regarding the internal and external environments of schools is necessary to guarantee support for cooperation between concerned parties. This study examined an event collection program’s effectiveness factors, and by showing the influence of these effectiveness factors on a reading and subject field, it confirmed that these factors had a positive influence on the awareness of the role of the library. New knowledge is discovered by choosing a topic and forming a collection of various related materials, and the depth and range is expanded; hence, this does not just structure knowledge, but also consists of display events from event factors of experiential marketing. This is significant as it provides a support for self-directed reading by promoting mutual interaction between students and reading materials, and through programs that involve participation and sharing.
