The size of metropolises that have appeared since the modern times is based on the population of the city rather than the area of the city. At this time, the mass production based on the development of technology is replaced with the mass consumption of the large population within the city, and the production and consumption of such cities are made by economic activities such as sales and purchasing. The Sales space, especially the retail store is the spatial evidence that reveals the mechanism of this kind of city. In other words, the retail store, which appears in various ways on the street side of the modern city, is the architectural result that the merchandise is finally delivered to consumers. At this point, the relationship between manufacturing, distribution, commercial and retail store can be understood not only in terms of economics and business administration but also in the development of urban architecture and the formation of urban organization. The purpose of this study is to examine the aspects of Korean urban architecture through research on retail store in Seoul. For this, it suppose that various retail business appear as retail stores in the city. This study noted the retail stores in Seoul are clearly different from those of the West that the historical background and its aspects. For this purpose, I investigated the effect of the development of manufacturing and distribution on the sales space by tracking changes in various type of sales spaces in Seoul. Especially, through analyzing the retail store of Seoul since 1990 's, tried to clarify how significance of the retail store as urban architecture. The cosmetics industry is a consumer goods industry that appears in cities in the form of various retail spaces and various sales spaces. AmorePacific, a cosmetics company, became the main research case of this study. from the 1960s to the 1990s, the cosmetics sales space has changed in various forms such as designated stores, door-to-door sales, cosmetics shops, shop-in-shops and brand shops. As of 2017, Seoul has not only traditional markets but also modern commercial space and commercial streets. This specificity of Seoul is unexplained by the development process of the Western and does not exist as a physically huge or special construction sometimes. However, cosmetics brand retail store has a historical significance in that Korean consumer goods, which were mainly distributed through visiting sales in the private sector until the 1980s, appeared on the city streets through various types of sales spaces. Also cosmetics brand retail shop is a corporate brand-based space, but paradoxically, it has a historical characteristic of urban architecture in that it is branding city street. As a result, the cosmetic brand store operates as an urban architecture in complex city Seoul. This study may be limited in that the research subject is limited and the feed is fragmentary. However, I would like to point out that this study tried to sort out the Korean aspect of the history of the sales space by analyzing the sales space of Seoul with a new perspective.
