The 2009 revised music curriculum emphasizes the guideline that in the education of traditional Korean music, singing, dance and music should be integratively taught throughout the entire areas, and the textbooks that reflected this, also, carry out the activities to which singing, dance and music are applied in various ways. In Changgeuk deriving from Pansori, singing, dance and playing an instrument are integrated, so it can be considered an effective method for the education of Korean traditional music along with the understanding of Changgeuk as a musical play. However, since it is difficult to implement that as a class, it is presented for appreciation classes only in the present curriculum, while there are insufficient cases of its application to the actual classes. This study designed a teaching method that could effectively teach singing, dance and music through the process of creating Changgeuk based on an educational and applicable story, considering the level of the 5th grade in elementary school, instead of the existing Pansori-based Changgeuk. For this purpose, this study, first, examined the concept and development process of Pansori and Changgeuk, discussed the direction of the application of Changgeuk to the education of Korean traditional music, and developed a teaching method of singing, dance and music utilizing creative Changgeuk, applicable to elementary school. This study designed a teaching method consisting of eight class hours for the 5th grade in elementary school based on the understanding of Pansori and Changgeuk. To resolve the difficulty in securing class hours, the class hours that could be operated by the discretion of teachers in charge were utilized, of the creative experiential activities, and as the story that is the base of creative Changgeuk, The Tortoise and the Hare was selected, which all of the class members knew, contains an instructive story and does not have many characters. The teaching method can be divided broadly into three steps according to the contents of learning, and each step is summarized as follows: First, the step of understanding basic concepts was composed of three class hours. Through this step, students can learn the features of Pansori, Changgeuk and Yukjabaegi Tori, understand the difference in feeling according to tempo (Hanbae) and differentiate and apply dashing-type (Daneun-hyeong) and closing-type (Maenneun-hyeong) of rhythm (Jangdan). Second, the step of creating lyrics, melodies and body expressions was composed of three class hours. Students learn the method of creating lyrics, melodies and body expressions, utilizing the pieces for the 4th grade that they already learned and at the same time, compose the music to be used in creative Changgeuk by the class unit. Third, the step of composing creative Changgeuk was composed of two class hours, and in this step, students connected the pieces composed by each group through the process in the previous steps, added theatrical elements, made creative Changgeuk by the class unit and held presentations. Students can experience the arts such as art and theater as well as learning singing, dance and music, preparing for the performances. Hopefully, through the teaching method of singing, dance and music through creative Changgeuk presented in this study, the music class utilizing Pansori or Changgeuk can be composed as a class that includes all domains of expression and making into everyday habit as well as the domain of appreciation in the elementary school setting.
