In this paper, a palladium thin film with specific response to hydrogen gas is patterned on a rigid substrate with physical stability and a palladium sensor capable of capacitance measurement using nanogap is proposed to effectively detect explosive hydrogen gas. The objective of this research is to develop a palladium nano-gap hydrogen sensor that can produce highly homogeneous mass production in a simple manufacturing process and exhibits high sensitivity at over 4% in practical use environment. For this purpose, a micro-notch capable of mitigating tensile stress is formed on a silicon wafer by a DIRE process, a silicon nitride is deposited to a thickness of 1000 nm, and a palladium thin film is patterned to a thickness of 25 nm in a notch structure. Finally, a crack is formed across the palladium thin film pattern to produce a palladium nanogap hydrogen sensor. In order to remove the effect of external light, the palladium nanogap hydrogen sensor was experimented in an external light-shielded chamber. The thickness of the palladium thin film was changed from 20 nm to 30 nm, Experiments were conducted to confirm stable conditions for repeated experiments in the environment. In addition, experiments were conducted to detect stable operation and change of on - off type in a high concentration environment of 4% or more while changing hydrogen gas concentration of 1% ~ 5%. In addition, it is possible to detect the stable change of capacitance at the concentration of 3% or more as an on-off type by the experiment of changing the concentration from 1% to 5%.
