Brand images deliver the unique images of the company by means of a variety of media, and the majority of consumers generally accept the brand identity(BI) as companies intend to present. Among the BI elements encountered by consumers,‘visual’images would stay for the longest time in the mind of customer, of which‘color', a sub elements of visual images has a symbolic meaning, which can be interpreted differently and variously by viewers. In particular, since color is projected with the emotion of an individual, so it is considered to be a crucial factor that influences the customers brand preference. The purpose of this study is to examine the brand image of domestic airlines and cabin crew. It is ultimately intended to contribute to construct the image of the company, which the customer is reminded consistently with images that companies wish to be recognized. Also, it aims to build up more influential brand images of airlines and cabin crew uniforms. This empirical study is conducted with questionnaire; where subjects are presented with the visual elements (symbol and logo, airplane, uniform) of the 8 domestic airlines and asked respond their subjective opinion and preference on color and its combination, color image of airline and cabin crew, and brand color images. The results of the study are as follows. The full service carriers(FSC) of airline industry,‘Korean Air and Asiana Airlines’adapted Korean traditional 5 colors, rooted cosmic dual forces‘yin and yang and five elements ideology’, for their brand colors. Also, Taeguek and colorful patterns of Korean traditional image are embodied in their brand images. In addition, since these brands have been positioned for a longer period of time, customers have reminded the brand color image consistently with the companies. Results also found that the low cost carrier(LCC),‘Tway Airlines, Air Busan, and Jin Air’have adapted intense or unique colors and its combination, so respondents are not limited to the‘Cheerful’category that three airlines commonly focused on, but have selected a variety of dynamic adjectives within a similar range. Whereas,‘Jeju Air, Easta Jets, and Air Seoul' adapted brand unique color at less significantly in the uniforms of the crew members. As a result, consumers’images on these carriers are inconsistent with the company’s intend to deliver. Furthermore, in the questions about positive and negative perceptions on the color of crew uniform, it showed the high rate of negative perception toward‘Jin Air, Easta Jets’and‘Air Seoul' also showed a relatively high level of non-preference toward the color of crew uniform. In contrast,‘Korean Air' was identified with the highest level of preference in this aspect. With these results, the following suggestions were derived for brand color images. First,‘Korean Air and Asiana Airlines' have relatively well established of their brand images, but because of the brand exposure to customers for a long period time already, it may give the sense of mannerism. Thus, it is necessary to maintain the existing strengths of the sense of stability, but to invest to deliver special and fresh brand image through advertisement. Second,‘Tway Air, Air Busan, and Jin Air' may have to adjust the color and its ratio in the brand image, so that the image scale that is currently dispersed could be focused to deliver the images clearly to customers. Third,‘Jeju Air, Easta Jets, and Air Seoul' have highly inconsistent image in the customer from the companies wish to be perceived. Therefore, it is necessary to reconsider the color arrangement and design of the crew uniform. Fourth,‘Jean Air, Esta Jets and Air Seoul’since they have a relatively high negative responds to the uniform color of the crew, may have to have a new perspective on the colors in their uniforms. Finally, this stody has drawn out positive or negative feedback from customers regarding the brand image of domestic airlines and cabin crew. Based on these results, it is expected to provide practical implications for existing and new airline carriers when the existing domestic airlines construct a color image, as an important element of brand identity, in line with the trend of the times, as well as when a new airline build up the color image of brand.
