High-performance electrochemical double layer (EDL) capacitors are next-generation energy storage devices for high-power applications such as electric vehicles because they have characteristics that surpass rechargeable batteries in terms of power density and cycling stability. In order to improve the speed performance of the supercapacitor, studies have been actively conducted to control the shape / structure of the active material, the interface between the active layer and the electrolyte, and the interface between the active material and the current collector. In this study, CVD graphene was grown on a nickel foil and used as a current collector, while chemically separated graphene (rGO) was applied as a supercapacitor electrode material. In order to reduce the agglomeration phenomenon which reduces the high specific surface area characteristics of the reduced graphene oxide with the electrode material, ammonia solution was added to the reducing agent for PH adjustment. Next, in order to fabricate and electric double layer (EDL) capacitor capable of withstanding charging / discharging at a high current level, a method of reducing the contact resistance between active material and the current collector by CVD graphene growth on the nickel was devised. CVD graphene were grown by changing annealing time, cooling rate, pressure, and hydrogen and methane gas ratios. Raman, FESEM and XRD analysis techniques were used to analyze the surface characteristics and the number of layers of CVD graphene. The rGO / CVD graphene / nickel capacitor cell was fabricated by varying the parameters according to the growth conditions and electrochemical characteristics were evaluated by cyclic voltammetry. As a result of comparing the performance of the electric double layer capacitor with the control sample (rGO / Nickel), the performance difference was remarkable in cycling stability and specific power characteristics.
