Effects of Clinical Art Therapy on Anger, Aggression and Ego Resilience of School Adolescent with Maladjustment원문보기

This study investigated how clinical art therapy program influenced school maladjusted students' anger and ego resilience. The students recognized and expressed their anger and aggression through the program, which helped improve their vulnerable ego and confidence. The program also was expected to support the students to recover abilities to control internal and external situations around them independently for improvement of school life and personal relation skills. The participants of the study are attending J high school in S city and they were asked by teachers in charge and counseling teacher through school adjustment test. A experimental group with 15 students and a comparison group were randomly assigned. A 90-minute-program was carried out twice a week 12 times for the experimental group while the control group was untreated. MMPI-A(Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory -Adolescent), BDHI: Buss Durkee Hostility Inventor, NAS: Novaco Anger Scale, Korea Adolescent Resilience Test and School Maladjustment Test were conducted for the experimental group and the control group as the pre and post tests. Furthermore, DAP was performed to figure out students' changes toward painting on first and twelfth session as a qualitative analysis and the rate of participation and attitude changes were analyzed according to session. The collected data of the study was statistically treated through SPSS WIN 18.0 program. The results of the study are as in the following. First, the clinical art therapy had effects on the decrease of school maladjusted students' anger and aggression. Second, the intervention of the program was effective in school maladjusted students' ego resilience. Third, the clinical art therapy motivated school maladjusted students who were lethargic due to educated torpor. The study suggests than an effective intervention program is needed for perpetrators of violence in school to express their aggression and anger positively rather than reporting their crimes on student record or punishing them severely. The common characteristics of school maladjusted or aggressive youths is they are lack of self-regulative and confidence. The clinical art therapy does not require skills or mission capability unlike studying or sports with grades. Rather, it is a pleasant play everyone can approach easily and helps students to feel self-efficacy through assignment achievement and achievement experience, which leads them to recovery of confidence as an improvement for their ego. Recovery of confidence through the clinical art therapy can be autonomously and flexibly for school maladjusted students from internal and external stress environments.
