The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of family resilience and social support on the school adjustment of migrant youths, and to utilize the result to make the migrant youths adjust well to school life. Following research problems were set up to achieve such purpose of this study. First, what are the variables of migrant youths such as family resilience, social support, and school adjustment, and level according to sub-elements? Second, what is the difference of adjustment to school life according to the demographic characteristics of migrant youths? Third, what is the correlation between family resilience, social support, and school adjustment of migrant youths? Fourth, what is the effect of family resilience and social support on the school adjustment that is perceived by migrant youths? The subjects of the study were 190 middle and high schoolers who attend to migrant youths-related local centers in Seoul Metropolis, Incheon Metropolitan City, Gwangju Metropolitan City, and Gyeonggi province. The factors that have an effect on the school adjustment of migrant youths were set up as the factors of demographic characteristics of adolescents (sex, grade, living with parents or not, duration of residence in Korea, duration of education in Korea, Korean level, academic performance, economic status, and parents' country of origin), the factors of family resilience, (belief system, organization type, and communication process), and the factors of social support (social support source and support type). As for tool for analyzing family resilience of migrant youths, the family resilience measuring tool, that Walsh(1998) developed and Bak, Ju-yeon(2011) arranged, was restructured to fit for the purpose of this research. In order to analyze structural aspect, three kinds of social supports, that Bak, Ji-won(1985) developed, from the aspect of function that explains social support tool, and four kinds of social support scale, that Lee, Gyeong-ju(1997) developed, were used. In order to measure the adjustment to school life, the tool that Min, Byeong-su(1991) developed and Lee, Hun-jin(1999) applied was used by devising and complementing it. The significance of questionnaire was secured to the maximum degree through the process of translating all the questions into Russian, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Japanese by experts in each country and then translated back into Korean, considering the Korean level of migrant youths. Data collection was conducted for about two months from December 8, 2017 to February 11, 2018. The research method includes frequency analysis, t-test, one-way ANVOA and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 20.0. The results of analysis are as follows. First, as for the family resilience level, the whole average was 3.69, relatively high, and as for average according to each sub-factor, belief system was 3.75, organizational type, 3.66, and communication process, 3.65 in the order. As for the social support level, the average was 3.75, relatively high, and as for support source, family support was 3.91, the highest, and then friend support, 3.82, and teacher support, 3.66, in the order. As for the support type, emotion support was 3.77, information support, 3.70, material support, 3.65, and support for self-esteem, 3.66, in the order. As for the adjustment to school life level, the whole average was 3.51, and the school teacher, 3.65, school life, 3.51, school study, 3.50, and school friend, 3.43 in the order showing high level of adjustment. Second, the main demographic characteristics of the migrant youths showed a significant difference in the level of adjustment to school life according to school ranks (t = 2.54, p < .05), duration of residence in Korea (F = 3.32, p < .05), and duration of education in Korea (F = 3.55, p < .05). Third, correlation between research variables, which were perceived by migrant youths, such as family resilience, social support, and adjustment to school life were examined. The relationship between family resilience and social support variables showed a significant positive correlation (r = .66, p < .001) in general, and the relationship between family resilience and adjustment to school life variables showed a significant positive correlation (r = .51, p < .001) in general. The relationship between social support and adjustment to school life variables showed a significant positive correlation(r = .62, p < .001) in general. Lastly, multiple regression analysis was conducted to examine the effect of family resilience and social support, which was perceived by migrant youths, on the adjustment to school life. As a result, it was found out that family resilience and social support variables accounted for 40% of the adjustment to school life variable, and both family resilience (b = .12, t = 2.32, p < .05) and social support (b = .35, t = 6.59, p < .001) showed a significant positive effect on migrant youths' adjustment to school life. The results of this study suggest that the higher the family resilience of the migrant youths and the more the social support they receive, the better the adjustment to school life. It was found out that both family resilience and social support variables are predictive variables that have a positive effect on the migrant youths' adjustment to school life, and social support has a stronger effect than family resilience on the adjustment to school life. Therefore, it is necessary to resolve the conflicts from the different cultures among family members and to support the psychological counseling program for family harmony so that migrant youths can adjust to school life. The teacher's letter translated to mother tongue for parents should be provided so that parents can actively participate in children's education. It is also suggested that a plan to make a group of people who are undergoing a similar difficulty and a support group for sharing each other's experience and communicating should be prepared for the migrant youths.
