This study aimed to provide the basic data for helping the understanding of young children's social support and resilience, and also establishing the measures for the enhancement of young children's social support and resilience, by understanding the relationship between social support perceived by young children and their resilience. Thus, the research questions of this study were set up as follows. First, what are the differences in the social support perceived by young children in accordance with the personal variables(sex, age, matter of mother's employment)? Second, what are the differences in the resilience of young children in accordance with the personal variables(sex, age, matter of mother's employment)? Third, what is the influence of social support perceived by young children on the resilience? This study targeted total 151 young children in their 3-5 year old of Y kindergarten in Seoul. Regarding the research tools, in order to measure the social support perceived by young children, this study used the Harter(1985)'s self-reporting Social Support Scale for Children, which has been modified by Yoo, Hye-Young(2004) for young children's better understanding. In order to test the resilience of young children, the researcher modified/complemented the scale recomposed/complemented by Lee, Ji-Hyeon(2012) based on the sub-factors of resilience suggested by Reivich and Shatte(2003) regarding the questions of HKRM(Healthy Kid Resilience Module; Hanson & Kim, 2007) and DECA(Devereux Early Childhood Assessment; LeBuffe & Naglieri, 1999). On top of calculating the mean and standard deviation for data analysis, the t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's product-moment correlation analysis and the multiple regression analysis were conducted. The results of this study could be summarized as follows. First, regarding the differences in the social support perceived by young children between groups in accordance with the background variables, there were no significant differences in accordance with young children's sex and the matter of mother's employment. However, there were statistically significant differences in the social support in accordance with young children's age. When the age was younger, overall, the social support was higher. Second, regarding the differences in young children's resilience between groups in accordance with the background variables, there were no significant differences in accordance with young children's sex and the matter of mother's employment. However, there were statistically significant differences in the resilience in accordance with young children's age. When the age was younger, overall, the resilience was higher. Third, the influence of social support perceived by young children on the resilience was overall 38%, and there were statistically significant-positive correlations between social support and each sub-factor of resilience. Such results of this study show that young children show the high resilience for achieving the positive development by getting out of hardship or stressful conditions in the growth process when the social support perceived by young children is higher. Therefore, all the parents, early childhood education institutes, and teachers should work harder to increase the social support perceived by young children and their resilience in their early-childhood, and also there should be diverse educational measures for the enhancement of social support and resilience of young children.
