It seems not appropriate to regard Korea as a single-race nation any more, as Korea has turned into a multicultural society since 20c when a lot of immigrant workers and international marriage migrant women come into Korea. Especially, persistent increase in the number of international marriage has brought about the growth of number of children of multicultural family, which in turn has caused social problems. In the situation where the problem of adaptation of immigrant women due to marriage has not been resolved properly, the women are responsible for the education of their children. Therefore, it has been pointed out that many children of multicultural family suffers from social prejudice, identity confusion, and academic alienation in school. If multicultural children do not grow into positive members of a society through school education, it would not only lead to individual losses, but also to a whole society. Therefore, the task of exploring ways to help them adapt to school is necessary for the development of our society. In this regard, this study tried to identify factors which have a positive effect on the adaptation of multicultural children to school. As school education is important for children from multicultural families to grow as a proud member of Korean society, it could be essential to identify the factors that lead them to better adjust to their school life. In doing so, it was assumed that social support from parents, friends, and teachers affects the child’s self-identify and –esteem, both of which, in turn, affect his or her school adaptation. Also, the moderation effect of after-school activities for multicultural children was analyzed. For analysis, a survey was conducted on children of multicultural families living in Seoul and Incheon, and regression analysis was utilized on the final 150 copies of the survey. The result of this study could be summarized as follows. At first, Social support from parents, friends and teachers was found to have a positive influence on the self-esteem of multicultural children. Secondly, unlike the self-esteem, it has been confirmed that only support from teachers has a significant effect on self-identify. At third, both self-identify and –esteem had a positive influence on multicultural children’s level of school adaptation. At forth, tt was confirmed that if children from multicultural families actively participate in after-school study or play activities, their level of school adaptation could improve. At last, it has been confirmed that post-school activities could moderate the effect of self respect and identify on school adaptation. The aforementioned results gave the following implications. Firstly, tt is necessary to prepare institutional mechanisms to ensure that children from multicultural families receive adequate social support. Secondly, children from multicultural families need to be actively encouraged to participate in after-school or recreational activities. Above all, out socieyt needs material resources for multicultural children. While the number of multicultural children increases, the number of teachers or multicultural support centers that have to take care of them does not increase significantly, it is only possible to provide assistance that is not of a high level in quantity as well as in quality.
