A successful communication requires conversational turn-taking and topic manipulation skills. Children of school age make a relationship with their friends and schoolmates, and they develop the ability of accurate language skills. Through group language treatment, children can practice the way of making a friendship and they can help each other as active students. The present study examined the effects of conversational skill intervention through group language treatment for school-age children with language delay, and it checked its utility of the treatment. The participants of this study were 3children with language delay. They are second grades in elementary school. The conversational skills intervention program was hierarchically designed to improve interaction, presuppositional-skills and mind-reading. The conversational skills intervention program was applied for 60 minutes 2 times per week for 20 sessions. The way of intervention included coaching, modeling, motivating and environment provision. This study collected the conversational samples from usual conversation and communication in group activity. The performances of conversational turn-taking(total frequency, rates of initiation, maintenance, overlap, and breakdown) and topic manipulation(total rates of initiation, maintenance, and change of topic, and appropriate/inappropriate rates of initiation, maintenance, and change of topic) were measured. For peer conversation abilities, AB design was applied while analyzing baseline, intervention and maintenance effect. In addition, conversational samples were collected individually by the examiner. Furthermore, parents' rating was evaluated to identify the change between before and after treatment. The result disclosed that, in peer conversation, in terms of conversational turn-taking, rate of overlap was decreased and rate of maintenance was increased. The part of topic manipulation skills, appropriate rates of maintenance and change of topic were increased. In conversation between examiner and children, the result of conversational turn-taking was positive. The rates of initiation and maintenance were increased and rates of overlap and breakdown were decreased. The part of manipulation skills, appropriate rates of initiation, maintenance and change of topic were all increased. Parents' rating showed that their children's language ability level was improved from the before treatment. The study said, the children with language delay improved their ability of communication skills, such as conversational turn-taking and topic manipulation. Also a result, this study revealed the treatment had a positive effect on the children's general pragmatic language abilities.
