Recently, a vegan culture towards refusing to use animal-based products has spread, and consumers who are conscious of animal protection are pursuing animal protective fashion trends. As the fashion industry’s interest in animal welfare and consumers' awareness increase, the number of vegan fashion products is increasing and there is a need for in-depth research on vegan fashion consumers. This study was conducted through in-depth interviews of 11 female participants who had purchased fashion products that advocate animal welfare such as products that sponsor animals, and fashion products that do not include any parts of animals by using artificial fur and synthetic leather. Vegan fashion consumers' personal characteristics, shopping orientation, and the purchase decision making process were considered and based on this, suggestions for vegan fashion were provided. The result is as follows: First, the personal characteristics of vegan fashion consumers showed (1) interest in various social issues, (2) acquisition of fashion information through social networking sites (SNS), and (3) high interest in fashion. Second, the shopping orientation of vegan fashion consumers showed (1) pursuit of individuality, (2) value-oriented shopping propensity, (3) independent shopping propensity, and (4) desire to pursue hedonism. Third, when the purchase decision making process was observed in purchasing vegan fashion products, the level of awareness of needs showed five dimensions; including the "influence of pets," "the impact of mass media/SNS," "the awareness of the need for animal welfare," "rejection of natural products," and "appreciation of beauty." In the information search phase, information was searched through "information search through the media" or "information source" from the past purchase experience. In the alternative assessment phase, "design," "quality," "process/manufacturing environment," "price," "easiness of product care" were used as criteria, and in the purchasing phase, "planned purchase," "impulsive purchase," "unplanned purchase," along with "meaningful purchase" and "product purchase" were shown. During the "assessment of self" in the post-purchase assessment phase, "change in awareness and purchase behavior," "increase of interest," "pride," "everyday consumption of vegan fashion products," and "the real-life challenges and limitations of consumption of vegan fashion products" were seen. During the "assessment of the products," "awareness towards vegan fashion products" and "willingness to repurchase" were studied. In the "post-purchase behavior" phase, "word-of-mouth behavior" and "consumption for the welfare of animals in other products" were shown. In the disposal phase, altruistic, economic, non-selfish disposal actions appeared, and participants showed various disposal actions, not a single action. Fourth, this study combined the participants’ purchase decision making process, evaluation, and suggestions of vegan fashion to provide suggestions for fashion, marketing, and manufacturing process. As a suggestion for products, it appears that the diversification of products is necessary to provide a wider range of choices to vegan fashion consumers and improve the design and quality of products. It is necessary to improve the quality of products by using different processing methods and high-quality non-animal fabrics to enhance consumer satisfaction. Also, it is important to provide products of various price ranges and offer them at reasonable prices. It is also suggested that for marketing, it is necessary to use mass media or SNS to deliver accurate information that can raise consumers' awareness of vegan fashion. Lastly, as a suggestion for the production process, participants focused on the manufacturing process of vegan fashion, and thus it is concluded that it is necessary to have a proper process and production environment and be transparent to consumers when producing vegan fashion products.
