Abstract
The purpose of this study is to construct a creative leadership program using storytelling activities and apply it to the field of young children education to verify the effects on young children's creativity, leadership, and emotional intelligence. The research questions set-up for above purpose are as follows. Research Question I: What were the effects of creative leadership program using storytelling activities on young children’s creativity? Research Question Ⅱ: What were the effects of creative leadership program using storytelling activities on young children’s leadership? Research Question Ⅲ: What were the effects of creative leadership program using storytelling activities on young children’s emotional intelligence?
The creative leadership program using the storytelling activity was composed of several stages-field opinions, literature review, composition of program design, and preliminary research. At the stage of opinion in the field, interviews were held with directors and teachers in the field of young children education to reflect their views. At the stage of literature review, we analyzed prior research and related literature such as creativity, leadership, emotional intelligence, storytelling, creative leadership program, and Nuri program. Based on this, a creative leadership program using storytelling activities was formed, and reviewed for adequacy and suitability through consulting with young children education experts. A preliminary study was conducted with the program. After field application & review, and supplementation on the program, the final program was constructed. To find out the effects of the creative leadership program using storytelling activities, the research was conducted at the "S" kindergarten in "D" City by selecting 53 young children who are 5 years old from 3 classes as an experiment group, a comparison group, and a control group. The experiment group and the comparison group were programmed total 20 times for 10 weeks from August 17, 2017 to October 24, 2017. A creative leadership program using infant-leading storytelling activities was applied to the experiment group, a creative leadership program using teacher-leading storytelling activities was applied to the comparison group, and general Nuri curriculum education activities was applied to the control group. SPSS 22.0 program and SAS 9.1.3 was used to determine the average value of the test data before and after the program implementation and further review. And two-way ANOVA including group and test times had been performed for factors of repeated measurement.
The results could be summarized as follows. First, both the creative leadership program using infant-leading storytelling activities of the experiment group and creative leadership program using teacher-leading storytelling activities of the comparison group, showed positive effects in overall and sub-region of the young children's creativity. In particular, the experiment group was found to be more effective than the control group that conducted in general Nuri curriculum education activities in the overall creativity and all sub-region fluency, creativity, openness and sensitivity. And in the post-test and the further-test between groups, the experiment group was more effective than the comparison group and the control group. Second, both the creative leadership program using infant-leading storytelling activities of the experiment group and the creative leadership program using the teacher-leading storytelling activities of the comparison group, showed positive effects in the overall and sub-region of the young children's leadership improvement. In addition, there were statistically meaningful differences among the groups. The experiment group scored the highest, followed by the comparison group, and the lowest in the control group. Third, both the creative leadership program using infant-leading storytelling activities of the experiment group and the creative leadership program using the teacher-leading storytelling activities of the comparison group, showed a significant improvement in most of young children's emotional intelligence, all sub-region, self-emotion recognition, self-emotion control, others-emotion recognition, and others-emotion control. Especially, in the post-test and further-test between groups, the experiment group was the highest, followed by the comparison group, and the lowest in the control group. These results show that creative leadership program using storytelling activities has positive effects on young children's creativity, leadership, and emotional intelligence. Especially, the infant-leading storytelling activity of the experiment group is more effective than the teacher-leading storytelling activity of the comparison group.
