국제적으로 환경규제가 강화됨에 따라 디젤엔진에서 NOX의 배출량 저감은 필수적이 되었고, 강화된 NOX 규제를 만족하기 위해 기존 UWS(Urea-Water Solution) SCR(Selective Catalytic Reduction), LNT(Lean-NOx Trap), EGR(Exhaust Gas Recirculation) 등의 기술이 사용되어 왔다.

As global emission standards are becoming stricter, NOX emission reduction is needed in diesel engines. The urea-water solution(UWS) based selective catalytic reduction(SCR) is usually used to reduce NOX. It is being used with a solution of urea(32.5 wt%). However, urea SCR has to overcome technical difficulties, such as freezing UWS below -11℃, decomposition above 200℃ due to deposits, and mixing length. On the other hand, solid SCR uses gaseous ammonia dosing. It has advantages of compact SCR system and NOX reduction at low temperature. In this study, ammonium carbamate was used for solid SCR system. Ammonium carbamate has low temperature of thermal decomposition and it is also sublimated to only NH3 and CO2. This study investigated whether ammonium carbamate changes into other materials during repeated heating and cooling conditions. Also, the thermal decomposition rate and reaction rate were measured and used as design data for solid SCR system. Ammonium carbamate was tested by XRD, FT-IR, TGA analysis. These analysis samples were collected after cooling and heating conditions. Analysis results of ammonium carbamate in the reactor were same as the raw sample, which means there is no change in the material. but, the sample of exposed air was changed to ammonium carbonate. it shows H2O reacted with ammonium carbamate which then, changed to ammonium carbonate. furthermore, TGA results of samples of heated/cooled several times shows faster thermal decomposition than raw sample. In addition, thermal decomposition rate of ammonium carbamate was expressed by Arrhenius equation through TGA analysis. Activation energy and proportional constant were determined. The changes of thermal decomposition amount according to the reactor temperature and the ammonium carbamate mass in the reactor were investigated and the proper temperature control method was suggested for the solid SCR system. Ammonia and carbon dioxide gas were supplied to the reactor cooled by cold air to investigate ammonium carbamate recombination capacity according to cooling air flow rate. Experimental results show that the recombination capacity is proportional to the amount of energy extracted by the cooling air.
