The purpose of this study is to develop and verify the effectiveness of the narrative therapy groups for the female victims of domestic violence. The study consisted of 22 inmates with a family protection facility of a home violence victim in C city, including seven in a experimental group, seven in a control group, and eight in an untreated control group. The narrative therapy program, which applied to the experimental group, and the cognitive behavioral program, which applied to the comparison group, were conducted three times a week for 120 minutes, namely total eight times. In order to verify the effectiveness of narrative therapy programs, after the end of the program the Before/After of the programs, the life quality of the victim, the meaning in life of the victims, self-efficacy, ego-resilience, and the hope scale test were conducted and validated by quantitative effects. Through qualitative analysis for the contents analysis of the narrative therapy program, writing the experience of how the new narrative of the novel was carried out was analyzed for the quality of the changes.
The results of this study are as follows. First, this study was developed to reconstruct the contents of the program for domestic violence victims based on the treatment of white & Epston (2015). Second, in the study on the quantitative evaluation results of group counseling for the narrative therapy program, the difference between the Before/After of the programs for the experiment group, the comparison group, the untreated control group showed statistically significant differences regarding degree of alternation of research factors including the life quality of the victim, the meaning in life of the victims, self-efficacy, ego-resilience, and the hope. In other words, after executing the program, the experiment group and the comparison group showed significant effects on the control group. However, in the post inspection, the experimental group showed that it was undergoing a dramatic effect, but the comparative group was significantly reduced. Therefore, it has been proven that the narrative therapy program is effective in enhancing the life quality of the victim, the meaning in life of the victims, self-efficacy, ego-resilience, and the hope for the female victims of domestic violence. Third, as a result of analyzing a qualitative change, in the process of the narrative therapy program, the contents analysis of the isolation of the problem, the externalization of the problem, the distinctive crop, the creation of the new story, the consolidation of the new story show the qualitative change, bringing about systemic changes through increased mental power.
As a result of this study, the narrative therapy group counseling was found to have been effective for the female victims of domestic violence. Thus, the narrative therapy group counseling is effective in rehabilitating new stories about life with hopes of a new life. This process will be useful for enhancing mental strength and enhancing congestion.
Finally, we discussed implications and meanings for the story therapy group for the female victims of domestic violence, and suggested a proposal for the limitations and follow-up of this study.
