Following the current knowledge and information age, we are now entering the transformational era of the 'fourth industrial revolution'. In this period of rapid change, 'a new human resource' is required to positively lead society. The existing education systems, methods and content can no longer foster human resources with the necessary creativity to develop new jobs and new job skills. School education as a public institutional system has the task to foster the future talent that can provide leadership amongst these changes and open a new era. The public educational system is inevitably required to reform educational goals and curriculum to foster creativity in the develop -ment of human resources. Above all, the main purpose of school libraries is to support learning-teaching activities linked to school curricula. School libraries, an essential element in the educational infrastructure, have to be integrated and administered with school curricula as a center for reading education and for information literacy education. In line with the changes in school curricula including the introduction of the ‘Free semester program’ and the ‘2015 revised curriculum’, school libraries also have to contribute to the achievement of the goals related to the improvement of school education by developing and implementing the various educational programs for reading education and information literacy education. The most important tool for developing the 'creative thinking' required in the current era is reading. The career reading program is a process of exploring self-understanding by focusing on ‘career reading’ as a mediator between reading education and career education, and the whole process is completed in the form of ‘a career portfolio’. Self-Selected Reading(SSR) can provide opportunities to explore a variety of books suitable to one’s interests and reading level, to understand oneself through direct or indirect communication, and to develop one’s own values. In books, one is given an opportunity to look back at his-self or herself through the process of analyzing the various information needed to mature one’s own career path. In addition, creative problem solving skill is a core competency required in the era of the 4th industrial revolution. Accordingly, the importance of information literacy has been increasingly emphasized to enhance the power to find solutions for oneself in problematic situations. Therefore, in this study, the information literacy model, Big 6 skills (Task definition, Information seeking strategies, Location and access, Use of information, Synthesis, Evaluation) was applied to the process of information utilization for solving information problems related to individual’s careers, so as to enhance the information literacy of students. The purpose of this study is threefold: 1. To suggest a Library-Assisted Instruction (LAI) which is linked to a career curriculum 2. To support career education by developing and implementing the career reading program model centered on school library with SSR theory and Big 6 Skills 3. And to analyze the educational effects of the program. For this purpose, the applicants to the program were recruited from the first and second grades of general C high school in Gyeonggi-do. It was a class activity to complete a 'career portfolio' by implementing a career reading program, title "Career reading journey to find one’s only career-mentor". The program was for 33 students who applied for participation. In order to verify the educational effects, a pre-test and post-test was conducted to measure 'career maturity' of the participant. A program satisfaction survey with open-ended questions including individual interviews was also used. As an analysis tool, the SPSS Statistics v.25 sample t-test was employed. The results of the t-test showed that the improvement of career maturity was significant, especially in the sub-variables 'planning', 'self-understanding', 'information seeking', 'rational decision making', and ‘knowledge of the desired occupation'. Finally, the career reading program with the SSR theory and Big 6 skills enhanced not only the students' career maturity but also their self-directed reading ability. In addition, the career reading program caused positive changes in reading attitudes such as increased reading volume and reading time, improved ability to set a reading plan with book reports, and strengthened reading motivation by reading self-selected books, writing a book report after depth reading, hope-book application after searching for career books and so on. Also, at a different level than previously experienced in school libraries, the students experienced library information services, which provided various informational materials and sources. The student learned how to retrieve information, thus, they had come to a more positive perception about the role of school libraries and librarians. In conclusion, through the development of the career reading program linked to reading education and career education, this study has demonstrated that LAI centered on school libraries is able to provide an opportunity to promote the activation of the school library with the new methods which is different from the existing reading programs.
