The effect of children's literacy interest and mother-child literacy interaction on children's emergent literacy skills원문보기

This study controlled the SES in order to compare the influence of the children’s literacy interest and mother-child literacy interaction on the children’s emergent literacy. For this study, 137 children(70 boys, 67 girls) who are 5 years old and their mothers were collected from the 11 kindergarten located in Seoul and Gyeonggi to collect datas. The collected data were analyzed by t-test, correlation analysis, hierarchical multiple regression analysis using SPSS 23.0 program. The results of this study are as follows. First, we identified whether there is a difference in SES such as children’s literacy interest, mother-child literacy interaction, and children’s emergent literacy skills. As a result, there was a significantly different according to the gender of children, the sibling presence, and the monthly average income of the family in the children’s literacy interest, mother-child literacy interaction, and the children’s emergent literacy skills. Second, the children’s emergent literacy skills showed a statistically significant relationship with children’s literacy interest and mother-child literacy interactions. Finally, among the variables explaining the children’s emergent literacy skills, the effect of mother-child literacy interaction was higher than children’s literacy interest. This study confirms that mother-child literacy interaction is a strong factor explaining the children’s emergent literacy skills. We also provided basic data for developing an educational program for promoting mother’s open interactions so that their mothers can interact with their child’s interests and needs.
