Nowadays, art education in schools demands development of class activities to which various materials and methods are applied. In this research, a SCAMPER technique along with a new method of expression using objets were applied so as to actively induce students’creative thinking and encourage students to express contents by applying the elements and principles of design and the art media in various different ways. Also, during the stages of producing artworks, students would learn to review overall processes such as planning their artworks and choosing media in order to express their ideas, production processes and results. Objet is to be defined as an ‘object that is not related to art.’ Ways of using objets in art class are: assemblage made from materials found in our daily life, junk art made from recycled materials or industrial wastes, ready-made or upcycling made from household items. The art class using objets, where students make their expression by combining the materials found in their surroundings, has strengths in that together with materials to express the existing forms of idea, students would use various materials by blending with objets. SCAMPER technique is a collection of seven methods, ‘Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify-minify-magnify, Put to another use, Eliminate and Reverse’, from which students can implement creative thinking with various techniques in various ways. Hence, I would like to research on teaching and learning methods for utilizing objets on the basis of SCAMPER techniques in order to induce students’creative thinking in art education of high school. Like assemblage arts using materials found in everyday life, students would choose any materials from their lives and make stories of those materials based on creative ideas obtained through SCAMPER techniques. Then, the art class would focus on using traditional materials for art expression along with objets to express in three-dimension. Therefore, this research would help teach high school students the value of expression using objets during the art class; allow to learn SCAMPER techniques for implementing creative thinking; and provide experiences to strengthen visual expression ability, self-regulated learning ability and creativity as well as to discover their potentials.
