This study aims at conducting research in formation and development of the American acting method and Stella Adler's acting technique that belongs to the late Stanislavski's method. And also investigating in the process of creating characters and expressing with realistic acting arising from internal frank emotions and impetuses. Stella Adler, who was affected by physical behaviors, the late method in the Stanislavski's system, created the method of acting technique through the process of expanding 'imagination', creating a 'given environment' by oneself, and building 'physical behaviors'. The acting method suggested by her improved abilities of students who dreamt of becoming actors, and educated lots of stars through effective training. Such her acting theories and training methods seem to help actors practically to analyze her work and to create characters played by them. Actors should represent vivid characters who seem to live in the imaginary world in a created work by creating them. Creation of such characters should be made by actors' imagination, and very minute parts which were not written in scripts by scriptwriter including topic of a work, purpose of each scene, will of character, and relationships should be analyzed specifically to be built. As a matter of fact, Stella Adler's acting method was made to improve actors' acting techniques. However, a lot of actors-to-be have never met this systematic method and become to act with unreliable expression, approaching works and characters based on their own inferior analyses. In a situation requiring actors to play, believing the world in a work, they should not perceive their own senses for expressions. If it is done, it would be likely to show acting with falsehood and difficult to present deep empathy and movement to audiences. This study is constructed as follows: In Chapter 2, formation, progress, and development of the American acting method are discussed. In Chapter 3, the acting method of Stella Adler influenced by late Stanislavski's system is reviewed. In Chapter 4, the actual scene analyzed with impromptu and actors' own methods were observed in detail and recorded. And then, based on Stella Adler's acting method, the presentation of impromptu and the actual acting in a real world were required to actors in training, and through them, the methods on analyzing a work and process of creating characters were compared and analyzed. Therefore, lack of actors were discovered by the analysis, and then these lacks were applied with Adler's training method and the changes were observed. The actors who played the scenes had reviews for their own acting and the research compared the results before and after the analysis, and reviewed the problems through interviews with the actors. It is expected that this study will be helpful for actors-to be to review their own analyses objectively and to find effective methods in the process of work analysis and creation of characters in their roles based on Stella Adler's acting method in future.
