The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in the effects of two pre-training warm up exercises Coordination Training Group (CDTG) and Core Training Group (CRTG) on physical fitness factors, technical factors, and age-related physical fitness and technical factors. The test consisted of twenty-four initial participants of middle school Football players, but Twenty-two athletes completed the whole process of the study, two athletes couldn’t finish the post-test due to the injuries. Twelve athletes were in CDTG (6 – 15 year-olds, 6 – 14 year-olds);ten athletes were in CRTG (4 – 15 year-olds, 6 – 14 year-olds). They participated in 8-week training program of 30-minute exercises three times a week. The tested physical factors included power, agility, and speed; for technical factors, dribble, pass, kick, and shooting were tested. The data obtained from the pre- and the post-test were further analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics Ver.24. The mean and the standard deviation were obtained, and the results were calculated by binary analysis and the corresponding sample t-test. The results of this study are as follows.
The CRTG had an increase in performance of power(Standing Broad Jump) from 217.4m to 223.5m (2.8%), which statistically significant results were obtained at the level of p<.05. In agility(Arrowhead Agility Test), CDTG decreased from 8.63sec to 8.42sec (-2.43%), and statistically significant results were obtained at p<.001 level. CRTG decreased agility time from 8.72sec to 8.54sec (-2.06%), which statistically significant results were obtained (p<.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the speed between the two groups.
CRTG decreased from 14.8sec to 13.9sec (-6.08%) in the coordination dribbling test, which was statistically significant at p<.01 level. There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in speed dribbling, control pass, kick and shooting.
In regards to the age-related performance changes, the power(Standing Broad Jump) of CRTG 14 year-olds increased from 211m to 220.7m (4.5%), and the difference was statistically significant at the level of p<.05. In agility(Arrowhead Agility Test), CDTG 15 year-olds decreased the time from 8.53sec to 8.23sec (-3.51%), indicating a statistically significant difference at the p<.01 level. With speed, the two groups did not show any significant effects at all ages and groups. 15 year-olds for both groups had decreases in technical factors from 15.5sec to 13.8sec (-5.28%) and 14.67sec to 13.21sec (-9.95%), respectively. However, there was no statistically significant difference in speed dribbles, control passes, kicks, and shooting.
The results of this study showed that the8-week core training, especially at the age of 14, had a positive effect on power. Also, both core- and coordination training had positive effects on agility, particularly had greater effect on the coordination group with the age of 15. However, since the two groups and ages did not show any positive effects on speed and technical factors, further study should be conducted on training methods that could complement the above factors.
