This study investigated the plant uptake of dimethoate and its metabolite, omethoate from soil during cultivation of lettuce, leek and spinach. The field study was carried out using the pot method. The soil was nominally treated with low concentration (10 mg/kg) and high concentration (20 mg/kg) using a diluent of pesticides. After then crops were grown for 24 days for lettuce, 26 days for leek, and 33 days for spinach. Soil sampling was performed a total of eight times, including the date of treatment, and crops, six times, including the first harvest date. Residue analysis was performed using the QuEChERS method. Both MLOQ(Method limit of quantitation) of dimethoate and omethoate were 0.01 mg/kg. To ensure the reliability of the method, dimethoate and omethoate recovery tests were performed on soil and agricultural samples. Fortification levels were 2 times and 10 times of MLOQ. Results of recovery test ranged in 70 ~ 120% with coefficient of variation satisfies less than 10%, and the sample was analyzed using the established analytical method. The plant uptake from the soil was confirmed using the calculated amount of pesticide residues. The transition rate was calculated using the bioconcentration factor. The concentration of dimethoate in the initial soil was 21.69 mg/kg and the residual amounts of dimethoate and omethoate in the crops were 6.11 mg/kg, 1.16 mg/kg in lettuce, 0.14 mg/kg, 0.18 mg/kg in leek and 0.08 mg/kg, 0.3 mg/kg in spinach. The calculated initial transition rates of dimehoate and omethoate were 0.2069, 0.0453 in lettuce, 0.0096, 0.0083 in leek, and 0.0017, 0.0127 in spinach. The residual allowable concentration in soil was calculated by comparing the calculated transition rate and MRL. Residual acceptable levels in soils were 0.1 mg/kg for lettuce, 1.9 mg/kg for leek, and 2.1 mg/kg for spinach, taking into account the general crop growth period. In addition, the plant back interval was calculated through this. Considering the general growing period, the PBI was 47 days for lettuce, 8 days for leek, and 7 days for spinach. Both pesticide components need to be managed together. In addition, it is considered that sufficient research on the safety period of the soil should be carried out in order to harvest safe agricultural products.
