This study started in the reflection that despite the importance of the role of Inference in reading, there was no suitable way to improve inference skills in reading classes. Inference plays an important role in the process of comprehending and constructing meaning in reading, but it is used in various different ways for each purpose in the actual reading process and in the field of reading education. For this reason, the development of an improving reasoning ability in reading classes has become an individual task for each individual. Through the survey, the authors want to examine the awareness of inference by reading specialists and the practice of inference education, and discuss opinions for developing models for reading education. This study reviewed studies on the concept and meaning of inference discussed in each field to examine various factors involved in making inferences. This helps to establish the concept of inference and further to establish educational content to practice inference skills in reading education. we discussed the importance of inference in reading as the competence required for a future society. Since having students prepared for the future is an important mission in education, it is necessary to connect an inference ability to reading education as future competencies. Chapter Ⅲ described the research method of the study and the questionnaire production process as a research tool. The results from 93 reading specialists' questionnaire on 'Awareness and Educational Practice about Inference of Reading Specialist' were analyzed using the IBM SPSS Statistics 25 program. Frequency analysis and cross-analysis were performed. In Chapter IV, the results of the survey was analyzed and interpreted. It was found that the awareness of inference from reading specialists varied and are not different from each other regardless of their work experience. It means that they do not share a single common definition about the concept of inference. Accordingly, their educational practice of inference was different for each other. It is assumed that the results was caused by various factors such as differences in awareness of inference, types of reading lessons, and in students to be taught. Many reading specialists said that even though educational inference is critical in reading, in-service teachers usually have no awareness of reasoning and even it is difficult to teach professionally because there is no teaching instruction or reference materials. Therefore, it is necessary to share ideas of inference and to provide the teachers with proper teaching tools such as reference materials and teaching methods. Chapter Ⅴ summarizes the contents of this study and suggests the direction of inference education in reading based on the contents discussed above. First, it is necessary to discuss the concept of inference suitable for reading education. To implement inference education in class, its concept must be re-established in a form suitable for the purpose and intention in reading education. Second, there should be various ways to guide inference in reading classes. Various teaching plans should be prepared that are applicable with ease in the process of teaching judgment, decision making, critical thinking, and creative thinking and in the process of reading as well. Third, it is necessary to broaden the understanding of inference and inference education by strengthening inference education for training reading specialists. There is no difference in the awareness of inference by work experience, which means that there is lack of inference education in reading education. It is expected that the quality of reading instruction improves if reading specialists receive proper inference education from the beginning of their reading career. Fourth, it is recommended to develop teacher training or models for proper curriculum for reasoning in reading classes. Reading specialists can further develop their expertise by conducting specialized classes on inference. The importance of inference education is getting emphasized through various prior research. This study is meaningful in the sense that the study results showed that there was no guidance method in practice and the educational state of inference education even though the proper guidance is required. Although this study has the limitation that it does not suggest a concrete, credible alternative for the discussed issues such as providing hands-on strategies or educational models to solve the observed problem, the study has significance in that the results provide a foundation for follow-up studies to develop strategies or create teaching models suitable for reading education.
