The purpose of this study was to analyze the experience of working mothers in three shifts with infants and children about work-family compatibility by Giorgi's phenomenological research method to find out what work-and-home experience is like for working mothers in three shifts. Participants in the study were from full-time employees, 31 to 39 years of age, working in the workplaces of large corporations in Gyeonggi and Chungnam regions. After 15 months of maternity leave and parental leave, a total of 8 people were selected, including a working mom who returned to work. The results obtained from this study are as follows: First, research participants were worried about how much child care and maternity leave they would use for a while and how much they would return to work after using the leave. There was a common concern about whether he would be able to return to the department where he worked when he returned to work, and whether he would be able to adapt well by raising his child while working in three shifts. Working mothers plan prenatal and paternity leave from the moment they get pregnant, and when childbirth approaches, they first take maternity leave and parental leave. At this time, the company's attitude of not caring for working mothers to take a leave of absence freely showed that working mothers had a lot of difficulties. Realistic support is also needed for the work-family compatibility system for the special working environment of shift work so that working mothers in three shifts can return to work after childbirth and continue their careers. Second, working mothers in three shifts in manufacturing jobs are found to have more difficulty raising their children than women who work regularly. There were difficulties in commuting to and from the hospital due to non-standard working hours, and participants felt guilty about having to adjust their children to unfamiliar environments due to the situation in which they were left to them. There were difficulties in urgently seeking surrogacy due to childcare vacancies when the shift was changed or additional overtime work, which caused many to worry about the emotional stability of the child. Third, when I felt a sense of belonging to the workplace while spending time with my family through welfare benefits, events, and events at work, I felt rewarded as a working mother and felt proud of myself and became a great driving force in work and family.
Fourth, the wish of working mothers in three shifts for the balance between work and family is that the system supported by the company is difficult to use due to the nature of the three shifts, and the absence of child rearing in the event of additional work or an unexpected situation, causing conflicts and concerns over whether it would be better to maintain a working life. For working mothers working in three shifts, companies need a system that is practically available or an environment that can adjust working hours. This study is meaningful in understanding the nature of work-family compatibility experiences of working mothers in three shifts of manufacturing jobs with infants and children. It is expected to be used as an institutional alternative to raising children in a substantially better environment by realistically understanding the non-standard working environment of working mothers in three shifts and the difficulties they experience while raising their children.
