This study was performed to investigate a spatio-temporal environmental change in Gomso Bay by evaluating the distribution of macrozoobenthos community and conducting a benthic ecosystem health assessment. Sampling was conducted in November 2017, February, May, and August 2018, by collecting macrozoobenthos from 51-52 stations. A total of 194 species of macrozoobenthos were identified in Gomso Bay, and the average density of macrofauna was 398 ind./㎡. Among them, 86 species (44.3%) belonged to the phylum Annelida with an average density of 277 ind./㎡, being the dominant group in the area. LeBris Index indicated that the top 10 dominant species showed 81.7% prevailing rate. The most dominant species was Heteromastus filiformis, which was the most dominant species during the entire duration of the study, distributed throughout the study area. As for the ecological qualities of the study stations, ecological quality indices were calculated from the benthic community data; diversity (′) was 1.62±0.20, evenness (′) was 0.80±0.04, and richness ( ) was 1.51±0.34. A cluster analysis using similarity classified the study sites into intertidal and subtidal zones that are being affected by seasonal changes. BPI, AMBI, and K-dominance were applied to assess the benthic ecological status. BPI resulted in an average value of 45±23, which is a level Ⅱ value indicative of the "good" category. AMBI showed an average value of 2.96±0.41, which is also a level Ⅱ value indicating a "good" marine environment. The result of K-dominance showed that the study area was stable and unpolluted during the entire study period. Therefore, these three health assessments suggest that Gomso Bay is environmentally healthy. BIO-ENV analysis of environmental factors correlating with the structure and distribution of macrozoobenthos communities showed univariate environmental factors of silt and showed the highest combination of silt and mean grain size. The correlations between biotic indices and environmental factors indicated a relationship between gravel and macrozoobenthos density, as well as sand, mud, and mean grain size related to the distribution of major dominant species in the area.
