This study conducted a survey among people over the age of 19 in Seoul metropolitan area based on changes in dietary life caused by the highly contagious COVID-19. The crossover analysis was applied to present the changes in eating home and eating out before and after the COVID-19 and the patterns of dietary life influenced by psychological and social factors that might be emerged at this time. In addition, this study could be helpful to deal with and supplement the changes in dietary patterns during social disasters including the COVID-19 in the future. This study found that there is a possibility of a change in eating out and behaviour of food purchase after COVID-19. Since the emergence of COVID-19, the frequency of eating out has decreased, the intake of home-cooked or delivered food has increased, and the preference for HMR food has increased. In terms of the psychological factors, the more fear of infection people had, the more information about eating out through the internet people trusted and the more frequent people got food delivered. Moreover, the amount of self-cooking at home increased and the proportion of health considerations was high. In terms of the social factors, as people had more concerns about food intake and consumption, they had purpose of eating out to solve the meal and the number of eating delivered foods tended to increase. In the case of having trouble going out the frequency of self-cooking at home and the frequency of purchasing food at online shopping malls increased. In conclusion, due to COVID-19, consumers' desire for information about health will increase as well as food items for health and disease prevention will be developed significantly in the future. In addition, in the case of distribution, since the COVID-19 the food purchase via hypermarkets and online shopping malls has increased remarkably, this study expects that the importance of purchasing food through multi-channel will improve. The results of this study are considered to be meaningful because studies on dietary behaviours that can occur during social disasters such as the COVID-19 are still limited.
