The purpose of this study is to analyze Bruner’s early and later curriculum theories from the perspective of the educational purpose, educational content, educational method and educational subject which are the essential concerns of education and the main components of the curriculum, and examine the implications on the discussion of curriculum reconstruction. Above all, Bruner’s early and later curriculum theories are regarded as an evolution and progress that took place in a series of processes that changed and developed according to the historical background, and are intended to be a comprehensive view of the continuum. This is because the relationship between early and later theories allows a multi-layered approach to each theory to derive its implications for curriculum reconstruction more abundantly, and also serves as a mirror for looking into the other through one theory. To this end, There are three research questions. First, what is the curriculum significance of the characteristics of Bruner’s early theory? Second, what are the curriculum implications of the characteristics of Bruner’s later theory? Third, what are the implications of Bruner’s early and later theories on the discussion of curriculum reconstruction? A literature study was conducted to solve these research questions. First of all, the educational purpose of Bruner's Early theory is based on the background of the times when knowledge education was being poorly and distorted. Reflecting the dreams and characteristics of the times on knowledge education, the aim was to foster intellectual excellence based on diversity and equality. In addition, in order to teach knowledge in a knowledge-like manner, Bruner suggested the structure of knowledge that emphasizes the meaning of the structure. And he suggested discovery learning and spiral curriculum as a way of teaching the structure of knowledge. Discovery learning encompasses creative discovery and thinking process with including intellectual attitudes such as the joys of discovery. The spiral curriculum is about how to structure knowledge according to cognitive development, following the principles of continuity and sequence and emphasizing the need to translate and present knowledge to the student level based on his core conviction. Finally, the role of teachers and students in the curriculum as educational subject is important. Following the view of teacher, a teacher is an instructor of knowledge, a model of learning and identification object. This regards of the teacher as intellectually more mature and superior than students. On the other hand, the view of students upgrades students who remain in the position of objects that accept knowledge in education to be independent. This regards of students as a physicist who explores physics and an active participant in discovery learning. And the relationship between teacher and student is cooperative, the teacher induces the student to discover and the student finds the structure of knowledge on their own with the help of the teacher. Next, the educational purpose of Bruner's later theory is to renew the culture of schools by re-examining the relationship between social change and school education. It is to establish a learning community as a field of interaction. In addition, narrative and culture are emphasized in educational contents and methods. Narrative is used in the same sense as narrative thinking, which is one of the cognitive actions of organizing reality and arranging experience. Narrative thinking is used to interpret and generate knowledge in dealing with life problems such as human behavior, relationships, communication, intent, and mind in specific contexts. In other words, narrative can be said to be a story that is being made, which encompasses ego, meaning, and the world and includes the process of making a story. In addition, narrative can reinterpret and expand the structure of knowledge, meaning that the structure of knowledge can be found and constructed at the same time, with a position that emphasizes the constructive reality of the structure of knowledge. The narrative is also deeply related to culture because humans can understand and create meaning through narrative in culture. For education forms culture as a part of culture, a school is exist as a culture and should form a new culture through narrative. Finally, a teacher is a true comprehender of the student and a colleague of learning. A student is recognized as a creator of the story and a learner who thinks with insight. So that they have an equal relationship, share culture, and interact through their narratives. Thus, the relationship between teacher and student can be said to be a member of the learning community and a mutual learner. Based on Bruner’s early and later curriculum theories, the implications for the discussion of curriculum reconstruction can be derived as follows: Bruner’s early curriculum theory emphasizes the curriculum for students and the aspects of discovery and construction of knowledge and suggests that all educational subjects create the curriculum together through curriculum reconstruction. In Bruner’s later curriculum theory, curriculum reconstruction pursues that all educational subjects grow in the curriculum and considers the overall and whole-person in the context of life. It is also to make a curriculum exist as a learning culture and an active living curriculum.
