The impact of festival experience properties on festival satisfaction and subjective well-being in the online context : the mediating effect of existential authenticity원문보기

The festival plays a variety of roles, including solving the problem of lack of human independence, restoring human beings to their original form, improving local values, strengthening local residents' solidarity, and providing high-quality leisure life. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the tourism industry is in a serious crisis that could go back 30 years, and domestic festivals have repeatedly canceled and postponed. In addition, the budget execution has been canceled due to mixed responses to the cancellation of the festival, and local festivals are weakening their self-sustainability. Currently, there is a tourism phenomenon in Korea that delivers festival programs to tourists by holding them online, which is different from the existing festival hosting method, to cope with the crisis of COVID-19. Pre-festival research has so far been studied on tourism phenomena where festivals can be held and experienced in real-life areas and sites, but no research has been conducted on festival experiences and festival satisfaction in academic real virtual spaces. Although the fourth industrial revolution and the commercialization of 5G technology are showing digital transformation phenomenon, all industries are not keeping up with the trend of the times compared to other cultures, contents, and game industries. In this context, the online festival is a paradigm innovation in the tourism industry and suggests a new field of research. The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze the attributes of festival experience, festival satisfaction, existential authenticity and subjective well-being of online festivals in Korea. To carry out this study, 104 online festivals were organized by switching platforms online due to the COVID-19 crisis, based on the 2020 regional festival status data released by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. And An online survey of 390 participants of the online festival was conducted and five hypotheses were established to apply the proven impact relationship in the festival's prior research to the online festival. As an early study of online festivals, this study defined online festivals and online festival program types based on prior research, and festival experience attributes focused on Lee Hoon's (2006) Sacredness, Escape, Playfulness, Togetherness, Placeness. Based on Wang (1999)'s theory, the subconcepts of intrapersonal authenticity and interpersonal authenticity were divided to verify that festival experience attributes play a mediating role in the impact relationship on festival satisfaction. Studies have shown that Playfulness (657), Togetherness (.156) and Placeness (.092) have a positive influence on festival satisfaction among the H1: Festival experience attributes. H2: There was a significant difference in festival satisfaction between the audience and the sales program participants at the online festival. In addition, only Playfulness (.550) among the festival experience attributes gave festival satisfaction, but the impact of Hypothesis H1 was verified in the group that experienced sales and participatory programs. H3: The mediating effect of existential authenticity was tested and the role of partial mediating in the influence relationship between intrapersonal authenticity, sacredness, escape, playfulness, placeness and festival satisfaction was shown. H4: Festival satisfaction (260) has had a positive impact on subjective well-being. H5: The hypothesis has been adopted that intrapersonal authenticity (.312) of existential authenticity has a positive effect on subjective well-being. The implications of this study were theoretical studies of online festivals, and the concept of existential authenticity was considered to be a sub-dimensional rather than a single variable. In addition, it is academically significant that subjective well-being was studied as a result variable to verify empirically at online festivals and pursue individual happy lives through tourism activities. The new tourism phenomenon of online festivals was considered academically as an early study, and we hope that it will develop into a hybrid festival in the future, where online and offline festivals will be held in the context of digital transformation.
