Online shopping has emerged as a new business model, so-called open market, in which sellers from many industries can freely trade with consumers who have already been familiar with the online marketplace through evolution and development. Open markets were actively utilized as distribution channels for small and medium-sized manufacturers and sellers in the early stage and have grown rapidly thanks to consumers' preference for low price. Stimulated by heavy blow of COVID-19 which hit the world in 2020, amazing growth of 5G and wireless internet, and generalized use of smartphone, consumers began to immerse themselves in mobile shopping. Mobile way of life, without space/time constraints, has rapidly changed consumers' spending patterns. In this study, the effect of mobile open market service quality on reliability, satisfaction and behavioral intention of customers was identified as the moderating effect of brand awareness. In addition, attempts were made to figure out how these relationships affect each other. For an empirical analysis of these relationships, a survey was conducted to the consumers who are well familiar with use of the mobile open market. First, as a result of the analysis, the relationship between service quality and reliability in the mobile open market showed a significant positive (+) impact of all factors such as informationability, immediacy, individuality, and economics upon reliability in mobile shopping. It was analyzed that the characteristics that affected reliability most were individuality, system reliability above all, and, next, seller's reliability. The analysis found that consumers trust the market's system when they feel that they need it and are fit themselves to it, and when they think being treated properly as a client. Second, it was learned from the analysis that the mobile open market service quality has a significant positive impact upon satisfaction. Since most online shopping malls currently are optimized for individual characteristics, customers don't have to spend more time than they need to. Mobile open markets are thus thought to have to pay more attention to individuality because customers respond most strongly to individuality. Third, the reliability of mobile open markets turned out to have a significant positive impact on satisfaction. According to the analysis, consumers are more responsive to the confidence of the system than to that of sellers. This means that, just as service quality affects reliability, reliability in turn affects satisfaction. Fourth, the reliability of mobile open markets has been analyzed to have a significant positive effect on the behavioral intention of consumers. However, the analysis made it clear that reliability for the system only among the factors of reliability influenced the intention of re-use and recommendation, whereas reliability for sellers did not. Sellers here refer not to a brand in the mobile open market, but to an individual seller, that is, to a large number of sellers who have put their products on the open market. In short, consumers are not greatly influenced by the trust of such sellers. Fifth, the analysis revealed that the level of satisfaction with the mobile open market has a significant positive effect on the behavioral intention. It means, that customers who were once satisfied with the mobile open market tend to re-use it and, furthermore, recommend it to others. That is, the customers’ satisfaction must precede their behavioral intention. Sixth, the analysis verified the hypothesis that brand awareness will act as a moderator in the relationship of influence between service quality and reliability of the mobile open market. It became obvious that if the quality of the service is good, customers tend to have trust in the market. In addition, it was made clear that the stronger the brand awareness which is a moderating variable, the greater its impact on the system reliability. The practical significance of this study to practitioners of the mobile open market is as follows: First, although there were many prior studies on the Internet and mobile shopping, most of them dealt with the consumers using PCs or social commerce, while it was hard to find studies on the mobile open market. This study is of academic significance in that it targeted consumers of the mobile open market in which even large online shopping malls started to join based on the explosive growth of the domestic mobile shopping market. An open market is literally an open place which serves as a relay so that many sellers and buyers can freely meet there. The analysis investigated the patterns of the people who use the open market with mobile devices, which is different from the existing PC environment, social commerce, and large online shopping malls. Second, unlike previous researches, the configuration of reliability is divided here into system trust and seller trust. In the previous studies, a seller was always a shopping mall, as a matter of course, while the seller of an open market is not the market itself but another user who wants to sell his product or service to the market. The market plays a role of providing only places and receiving commissions between sellers and buyers. There are numberless sellers in the open market. And consumers have proven to be more affected by the confidence of the market system than by the trust of the sellers. In particular, individuality was discovered to have exercised the biggest impact. The reason is the favorable location of mobile shopping malls at this point. Here, it is evident why latecomers are in the spotlight more than shopping malls that once competed for the first and second place. Consumers no longer want to fritter away their time and no more tolerate waste of time due to unnecessary information. The breaklessly evolving IT technology provides information that best suits customers' tastes. Front-running companies need to know why latecomers like Naver and Coupang are jockeying for the first and second place over the starters. The prolonged Corona 19 situation has made people familiarized with the untact (non-face-to-face) life style in a short time and secured new customers in their 50s and older, who had been offline customers. Online is no longer an exclusive domain of young people, and its individuality that is easier, more immediate, and better tailored to individual preferences makes everybody feel the system trustworthy and creates new customers. Third, this study is meaningful in that it systematically arranged lots of variables which were known by studies to affect reliability of and satisfaction with mobile shopping in the mobile open market, and verified them through an empirical analysis to develop a theoretical structure. Fourth, the present study is also significant in the sense it contributed to broadening the understanding of the factors which affect behavioral intentions from more diverse perspectives by examining the direct and indirect effects on system reliability and seller reliability using brand awareness as a moderating variable. Just as online shopping malls first appeared in the past, mobile open markets may also be regarded as the advent of a new paradigm. It seems, thus, that the mobile open market will constantly change along with continuous progress of the next-generation mobile communication technologies such as 5G. In order to properly identify customers' needs and provide services that can satisfy them fully in this online market situation, accurate analysis and understanding of customers should first of all be preceded. As a mobile appliance is an entirely personal means of communication compared to other ones, customers always carry it with them around and such ubiquitous environment as this has brought many changes to customers' purchasing patterns, it can be said.
