The purpose of this study is to explore the self-reliance of adults aging out of foster care and propose practical and political implications for their stable self-reliance. For the reason that, 9 people with self-reliant experiences after the end of protection from the child care institutions, such as group home and foster care, for more than one year and less than five years were interviewed in depth and analyzed through context-pattern analysis method. According to the analysis, adults aging out of foster care had experienced “difficulties in the early stages of self-reliance," that are parts of the ”the process of being alone," However, they managed to achieve “healthy self-reliance” through interactions with various systems. The difficulties of adults aging out of foster care, in the perspective of self-reliant lives, were economic difficulties(residence and income), psychological difficulties (loneliness, anxiety, burden of supporting grandparents, difficulties in interpersonal relations, and concerns over the future), and difficulties in living territories(food preparation, cooking, and house management). However, they overcome from the difficulties of being self-reliant through interactions with micro-systems such as families, facilities, institutions, other adults aging out of foster care, campaigners and co-workers, and macro-systems such as occupations, educations, and scholarship foundations. As a result, the practical and political implications are as follows: First of all, it is necessary to expand and deploy self-reliance agents to systematically and successfully prepare for self-reliance before the end of protection period. Secondly, it should be able to increase the effectiveness of the standard self-reliance support program. Thirdly, the time when the protection ends and the age that no longer available for the protection should be extended. Fourthly, adults aging out of foster care should be able to get support to be economically independent. Fifthly, meetings of adults aging out of foster care must be activated.
