The objective of this study is to verify the mediating effects of anger and shame, and the moderating effects of impulsivity and social support on the effects of negative self-evaluation and parental criticism on non-suicidal self-injury of university students. The data of total 442 university students in the whole nation was analyzed. In summary of the results, first, the negative self-evaluation had direct effects on self-injury through the partial mediation of anger. The shame did not show significant mediating effects. The father’s criticism increased the self-injury through the mediation of anger while the shame did not show significant mediating effects. The mother’s criticism had direct effects on self-injury without mediating effects of anger and shame respectively. Also, when the impulsivity was higher, the anger showed the moderating effects on the increase of self-injury. There were no moderating effects of impulsivity on shame and self-injury. Even though the social support did not show moderating effects on self-injury regarding the anger and shame, the main effects were shown, so it was verified as a stable resource providing the buffering effects on self-injury. The significance of this study is to provide the information about the self-injury counseling intervention measures by verifying differences in the path to self-injury between father and mother, clarifying the mediating role of anger on self-injury, and also verifying the moderating effects of impulsivity and the buffering effects of social support. This study has a limitation of collecting the data only through online survey, so the further researches would need to conduct the repetitive verification.
