This study explored school health teachers’ response experiences to infectious disease and derived variables related to the nature of infectious disease response experiences. In addition, it was conducted to develop a substantive theory on the experience of responding to infectious diseases of health teachers by checking the relationship between each concept. The research question of this study is "What experiences did health teachers have while responding to infectious diseases?" Participants in this study were 20 school health teachers who collected data through in-depth interviews. It was carried out by applying the grounded theory method proposed by Strauss & Corbin (1998) and analyzed data simultaneously as data collection. Through the analysis process of open coding, axis coding, and selective coding, 164 concepts, 45 subcategories, and 17 categories were derived. Subsequently, type analysis and process analysis were conducted, and a situation model was formed. Finally, the conceptual framework was completed. Accordingly, the results of this study are as follows. In the paradigm model, causal conditions were ‘Excessive responsibility’, ‘Lack of manpower for one-person work’, ‘Little authority’, and contextual conditions were ‘Lack of awareness of infectious diseases by school members’, ‘Lack of administrative support’ and ‘Poor manual’. The central phenomenon was ‘Lonely struggling’. The intervening conditions were ‘Activation of work-related networking’ and ‘Reasonable work support in school’. The action/interaction strategies were ‘To work with the mind of being an infectious disease response controller’, ‘Building a sense of trust as an infectious disease expert’, ‘Improving infectious disease recognition through health education' , ‘Building a customized system for schools’ and ‘Leading cooperation through communication’. The results were ‘Rewarding for the health teacher's job’, ‘Enhancement of competency as an infectious disease expert’ and ‘Exhaustion from constant sacrifice and rising expectations’. The core category derived through selective coding was ‘Become a school infectious disease response control tower through communication and cooperation’, and the storyline was described accordingly. In the process analysis, after the central phenomenon was expressed, five stages was experienced: ‘Confusion period’, ‘School member recognition improvement machine’, ‘Building an infectious disease response system’, ‘School member role sharing machine’ and ‘Infectious disease response system operator’. The study participants were ‘Self-directed type’, ‘Cooperation request type’ and ‘Sacrifice type’. In the context model, the interactions of the study participants were divided into individual, family, school, community, national/social, and global level, and presented as a schematic, and the contents of each level were described. Finally, the conceptual framework of this study was derived from the 'School Infectious Disease Response Control Tower' model. In this study, we provided basic data for nursing intervention by examining the individual's subjective and inner microscopic world of what health teachers experience in infectious disease disaster response situations. In addition, the practical view of the health teacher, who is the actual infectious disease manager, was used to understand the status and situation of infectious control in schools. Finally, it is expected to play a role as bottom-up policy data to prepare problems and improvement measures for the response system of infectious disease in schools.
