Recently, elementary schools are required to have quality school facilities that can actively reflect various needs as their educational and economic levels have improved and their expectations have risen very high. According to these changes, the government and local governments are conducting design contests and implementing implementation designs based on the improvement of the design quality of educational facilities and learning environments in elementary schools. In order to design such an elementary school, it will be possible for the architect of the building to identify changes in the educational environment, reflect them in the plan and design, and meet the needs of users only when clear basic directions for design are set and elements according to that direction are properly reflected. Currently, the implementation design of elementary schools should be carried out to convey the designer's intention more accurately, but the implementation design is mainly based on superficial reasons such as construction feasibility and construction cost, so the design contest and implementation design are different. To respond to future education in the design contest stage and the implementation design stage, it is necessary to analyze the difference between design contest and actual design by considering each response direction and deriving detailed demand performance to achieve future education. Therefore, to analyze this, this study derived and applied "school facility design indicators" for six elementary schools elected through design contest located in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam (hereinafter referred to as Bu·Ul·Gyeong), and proposed the following directions for improvement of school architecture. First, as a result of the analysis of the survey, the average value of the educational space, such as the learner-centered educational environment presented in the design contest and the space linked to the curriculum, is low in the implementation design stage. It can be judged that the contents presented excellently in the design contest are insufficient to be reflected depending on financial and design conditions. However, in terms of building a future-oriented and economical space and securing carbon-neutral eco-friendly transportation, the values are very high in the implementation design stage than in the design contest. This can be judged that the economic part of the design contest is somewhat insufficient, even considering that more detailed design is made in the implementation design stage. Based on this, it is highly necessary to reflect economic conditions and eco-friendly factors in designing spaces for elementary schools in the future, and various issues other than design factors should be evaluated in selecting design proposals. In addition, in the implementation design, various matters related to design elements and spatial arrangement proposed in the design contest should be better reflected. In particular, the functional and utilization aspects of elementary schools are that the contents proposed in the design contest are fair competition by designers with excellent creativity and technology to derive appropriate alternatives, so the contents should be properly reflected in the implementation design. Through the above analysis and presentation of improvement measures, it is expected that this study will be usefully used as basic data for activating the 'school facility design index'.
