This study set out to investigate the effects of middle-school career education on the reasons for students’high-school choice(university entrance advantage, commuting convenience, high-school features/cultures). To achieve the purpose of the study, a research question was set up as follows. How much does the quality of middle-school career education that the students experienced affect the reasons for their high-school choice? For the purpose, the study used the data of the 9th graders, the same 10th graders and their parents in the GEPS(Gyeonggi Education Panel Study) by Gyeonggi Institute of Education and conducted multinomial logistic regression analysis with the commuting convenience set as the reference group in the first step and the school features/cultures set as the reference group in the second step. The analysis results are as follows. First, the reasons for students’ high-school choice can be largely divided into two groups according to the degree of variables’ relation with middle-school career education. For example, the students with female gender, high academic achievement, and high monthly family income which are weakly related with middle-school career education, tend to choose a high school considering the university entrance advantage or the commuting convenience. On the other hand, the students with high parental fever of education, high students’participation and satisfaction in career-education programs, high career maturity in career perspective which are strongly related with middle-school career education, tend to choose a high school considering the school features/cultures as well as the university entrance advantage. Second, the quality of middle-school career education has an important impact on the reasons for students’ high-school choice by aptitude. Specifically, the students’ participation and satisfaction for the career-education programs, and the career maturity in career perspective showed the most powerful impact in choosing a high school by considering the school features/cultures as well as the university entrance advantage among all the variables. Third, the career maturity in job attitude and self-understanding on career has only a little impact on choosing a high school by aptitude disappointingly. This can be explained as a kind of management problem of middle-school career education. If the schools just focus on the number of the programs of career education and simply provide numerous programs to the students without considering their interests, it would be difficult to improve their career maturity high. Instead, the school should try to run customized career-education programs and relate the students’interests with realistic jobs to improve their career maturity. These findings indicate that the students choose high schools considering the school features/cultures as well as the university entrance advantage when they have enough experience of quality career education at middle school, and suggest that every high school should seek a way to reflect potential students’aptitude and career on their admission standards.
