The purpose of this study was to develop and apply a validated evaluation scale that allows teachers to evaluate social play for children aged 3-5 years in the early childhood education settings. In this study, various literatures and previous studies were reviewed, and the first and second validation of the draft questions were conducted through interview surveys with early childhood teachers. In addition, a survey was completed to verify understanding and fit for 64 items of the young children's social play scale. Validity verification (item quality analysis, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, validity evaluation analysis, reliability verification) was performed for the validation of the developed this social play scale. The results of validation are as follows. First, as a result of the item quality analysis, it was proved that 64 items of young children social play scale are good items that can discriminately evaluate the level of children's social play. Second, as a result of exploratory factor analysis, 5 factors and 57 questions were extracted for ‘solitary play’, ‘parallel play’, ‘simple social play’, ‘mutual associative social play’, and ‘mutual cooperative social play’. Third, as a result of confirmatory factor analysis, the conformance index of the measurement model was =984.666, p=.000, Q=7.877, RMSEA=.089, NFI=.950, CFI=.956, GFI=.8.5, TLI= .947, indicating that all indices meet the recommended fitness level. Fourth, as a result of the validity evaluation analysis (convergence validity, discriminant validity), the average variance extraction amount between the constructs used in the measurement model was over a certain level of .5, confirming that convergent validity was secured. And it was found to have discriminant validity of the measured variables as it was larger than the square value(r2) of the correlation coefficient between the research concepts. Fifth, the Cronbach's α value for all items was calculated as .98 in the item internal agreement analysis through reliability verification, indicating a high level of reliability. The young children's social play scale was developed through this validation test, and this scale was proven to be an evaluation scale with high reliability and validity. The young children's social play scale developed in this study was applied to see if there was any difference according to the gender and age of the children. The application result is as follows. First, an independent sample t-test was conducted to find out whether there was a difference in children's social play according to gender. And as a result of the analysis, the female group (M=6.58, SD=.56) was higher than the male group (M=6.00, SD=.72), indicating a statistically significant difference (t=-7.78, p<.001). Second, one-way ANOVA was performed to find out whether there was a difference in children's social play according to age. As a result of the analysis, the 5-year-old group (M=6.55, SD=.65), the 4-year-old group (M=6.28, SD=.68), and the 3-year-old group (M=6.05, SD=.70) were in that order. appeared, and there was a statistically significant difference (F=13.31, p<.001). According to the results of this study, it can be interpreted as the result that social play appears more actively in girls than in boys. In addition, it was found that the social play of children became more active as the children's age increased. In conclusion, the young children's social play scale developed in this study has been proven to be a highly reliable and valid scale for social play of 3-5 year olds. Therefore, this evaluation scale can be used as basic data for education and development, and it will be able to contribute to a wide range of research on children's social play.
