This study is about drama therapy with application of mindfulness, which aims to verify the applicability of mindfulness in drama therapy. To this end, the literature review was conducted to develop the program, and the individual work of a woman in her 20s with a depressive disorder was performed and analyzed to explore the validityofitseffects. This study mainly utilized Jon Kabat-Zinn's mindfulness meditation as it aims to restore daily life. Before reviewing the case study, to relate mindfulness and drama therapy, which are distant, ‘Presence’, ‘Importance of the body’, ‘Distance’, and ‘lovingkindness and empathy’ as the point where Jon Kabat-Zinn's mindfulness and drama therapy meet were examined, and subsequently complementarity of mindfulnessanddramatherapywasexamined. The comparative analysis of mindfulness and drama therapy is as follows.First, mindfulness helps the participant understand the present moment she is experiencing in ‘here and now’ without judgment, and drama therapy helps her discover herself through various theatrical interactions in‘hereand now’.Second, bodily sensations are the main objects of awareness in mindfulness, and embodiment and potential body development are taken as the beginning of treatment in drama therapy. Both drama therapyand mindfulnessfocuson theselfasthemasterofthebody.Third, mindfulness helps the participant see the present situation and herself as she is and distance her from her judgments, prejudices, and thoughts. Drama therapy helps her see her situation from a new perspective by distancing her from herself and her experience through fictional situations and roles constructed through stories, imaginations, andrepresentations. Fourth, in mindfulness, lovingkindness and empathy are important emotional qualities, and Drama therapy enables her to empathize withand love herself and others through various emotional experiences and role-playing.Nextis thecomplementarity ofmindfulnessanddramatherapy. Mindfulness helps her be present stably in the drama therapy process so that she can clearly recognize her true self and the present through awareness and attention. In addition, drama therapy helps her creatively become aware of herself anew creatively by expanding and experiencing the present awareness in various ways through imagination. This combination of mindfulness and drama therapyenablesa completeandintegrated self-awarenessand insight. A female in her 20s diagnosed with the depressive disorder was selected as the subject of the clinical case through a recruitment notice. The drama therapy program that applied mindfulness was performed for 120 minutes once a week for a total of 16 sessions. However, the 15th session in which the performance was announced lasted 180 minutes. In addition, ‘Beck Anxiety Inventory’ and ‘Korean Resilience Quotient Test’ were conducted during the first and last sessions of the program and during the follow-up interview held one month after the end of the program to verify the effect of the programonparticipant'sanxietyreliefand resilienceenhancement. The result confirmed that the drama therapy program applied with mindfulness significantly relieved anxiety and enhanced the resilience of the female participant in her 20s diagnosed with depressive disorder. The drama therapy program that applied mindfulness focused onutilizing mindfulness meditation and mindfulness-related activities in the process of ‘potential body development’ and ‘body transformation’. The program work was analyzed from the perspective of the mindfulness training model composed of ‘intention’, ‘attention’, and ‘attitude’,and the‘dramaticbody’.Mindfulness meditation and mindfulness-related activities conducted within drama therapy positively helped the participant reach a ‘sensing body’ and an ‘imagining body’. The participant could fully relax in the treatment space through mindfulness meditation and entirely exist in her body, the treatment space, and the dramatic space. In addition, the participant was able to experience the self-transcendence of being united with the entire dramatic space beyond the role through the process of noticing her senses, emotions, thoughts, and feelings intact in the process of imagining. That is, she experienced a ‘transforming body’, showing that the participant's dramatic immersion was maximized through mindfulness-awareness. The participant was able to get closer to the ‘dramatic body’ based on the experience of delicate awareness throughout the entire programandcould noticeherselfmorefully. This study sufficiently demonstrated the validity of the theory based on a single case clinical trial of a participant with depressive disorder, and this study would be significant in that it suggested a new perspective by applying the field of mindfulness to drama therapy.
