The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of art therapy on multicultural children with ADHD and whether it could help reduce any problematic behavior. The subject of the study was a male fourth grader who attended N Community Children's Center in D City. Due to the subject's problematic behavior of ‘yelling and swearing' and ‘interfering with other children's activities', his teacher in Community Children's Center had asked for this study to be conducted. In this study, an observer was trained four times over 1-2 weeks in September 2022 to observe and record problematic behavior in order to get a baseline measurement. The baseline measurement was recorded using the frequency recording method during the time the children was active at the Community Children's Center which was from 15:30 to 17:30. On average, the subject would be ‘yelling and swearing', 5.4 - 8.4 times per day and ‘interfering with other children's activities' 2.6 - 5 times per day. From October 2022 to November 2022, art therapy sessions were conducted twice a week for 40 minutes per session, for a total of 16 sessions, behavioral observations were also recorded five times a week during this period. After this, a maintenance period of 2 weeks was observed to see the lasting effects of the sessions. The data was processed as follows: First, the change in problematic behavior was recorded by the trained observer and plotted using a table and a line graph. Second, the recordings of the art therapy sessions were examined to see the responses after each session. The results of the study showed that the subjects frequency of problematic behavior had decreased when compared to the baseline measurement. Therefore, it is believed that art therapy has a positive effect and can help reduce problematic behavior in multicultural children with ADHD.
